FD vs 350z
#27
I personally am not a fan of the 350z. I think its an okay car. It feels heavy and the acceleration isn't that impressive. On the other hand, my wife drives an 04 G35, which is pretty much the same car with backseats. I do enjoy that car more than the 350z. The fit and finish is better, plus its more luxury for a DD.
I've also test driven the 370z. That car is nothing like the 350z. It is, as others have said, better in every way. The fit and finish is better, the engine is better, and the overall look and handling is better. The 370z doesn't feel as heavy as the 350z. The stance (especially the rear fenders) look amazing.
In the end though, I cannot part with my RX-7. Nothing handles or accelerates like it does. Plus the look of the car still attracts stares and people asking me, "What type of car is that? Is it a 2010? 2011?"
FD3S > 370Z > G35 > G37 > 350Z.

Well the reason I put out there is because he sounds like he is looking for something to drag race. The point I was trying to make is that instead of putting money into the FD to make it look nice and hold it value, he could be throwing that money into the performance mod for the Z since he should find one that it is in better condition than a 15+ year old car.

Depends on the year of Z also, VQ35HR 350Zs are a bit more responsive and overall faster (Corners and straights). The DE 06 and before version is a bit slow and lacks the luster the newer engine has.
But, overall ownership costs in the long run, the Z should win hands down. It can't replace an FD though.

Ex-350z owner here too, now building my FD. Listen to these guys. You've had an FC, so I assume you already somewhat know. Hope you have a DD. My old Z.

My opinion is, if you're going to chump out, chump out hard core.
Don't buy a "semi sporty" car for your daily driver to make yourself feel better, buy the most economical, utilitarian thing possible and maximize the effect, then do the same in the other direction for your "cool car"—buy what you want, and don't bellyache about gas mileage, reliability, and what not.

I had an 04 and thought it was a great car but then after a few years, it became the new civic to me. Younger and younger kids were getting them and give the car a bad name, Started to see a lot of ricey Zs out there so I sold it. While it wasn't heavily modded, I liked to just keep it simple and clean.

If money and reliability weren't an issue, FD all the way. I miss mine a lot, and hope to someday have a chance to own another one.

Nissan must be one of the more profitable "sports car" manufacturers out there (aside from Porsche) - they're milked the Z engine and chassis for everything they can get, with several varations of the same basic bin of parts and a few extra gadgets with incredible mark-ups. G35s cover the roads like flies.

I agree with some of this, but cars like the S2000 strike a great balance between acceptable power for a daily driver, along with decent gas mileage, outstanding reliability and quick handling. A Prius is not engaging to drive at all, sorry - I can't go there. The Z probably isn't bad in terms of mileage, either, I just can't get past the "transformers-meets-an-appliance-store" look.
This thread shouldve been FD vs. S2000
I love the rotary and will always at some point own one. The only car that ive driven that has given me the "FUN" factor that the FD gives is the S2000. No, its not the fastest car in a straight line, but the grin it puts on your face when V-tec kicks in on a curvy road is hard to describe. For the money and kicks aspect the S2000 is the only car that compares.

Like many others, if you want a Z, get the 370Z, dont settle for the 350.
If your pockets arent that deep, then consider the s2k.
It is basically an FD (IMHO) in terms of how it feels without that extra "umph". Its reliable, easy to work on, looks great and has a great racey, sports like interior.
And never consider your future FD as a daily driver. Doesnt matter if you can do it or not, or if you want to build one to make it a daily driver, just have an actual daily driver instead. Then have the FD on the side.

The 350Z looks like a girly chick car and the 370Z looks like a catfish.
The only Nissan product to consider when comparing to an FD is the Z32 Twin Turbo. They are from the same era of Japanese Super Cars.

350Z's are dirt cheap now. But if you're going that route, get an s2k.

I've test driven a 350z and owned a G37s Coupe that was first to have the engine that's in the 370z. The Z/G are great cars and are reliable for sure. I agree they make great daily drivers but I have to say the fun factor was low for me. The FD just blows my mind at how fun it is to drive. You'll never get that in a 350z imo.
