ok, take the approach that the motorcycle guys use when deciding on a bike. you never get the fastest crotch rocket for your first bike because you need to learn how to controll the power first. it seems more logical when dealing w/ motorcycles because if you f*ck up you are dead!!! but the same goes for cars (you just have a little more margin of error)...

clayne, my parents pay for my insurance. I knew I'd get flamed for admitting to essentially a free ride in getting an FD. Oh well, I'm always going to be a kidiot to you and most everyone on this forum. I'll have to start searching for all the midlifer wrecks posted on here and start some sort of sig with them and maybe I'll add a few pics of their heads smashed through windows/windshields or views of where they were ejected from the rear hatch. Wouldn't you like that? At least I'd be living each day remembering what can happen if I decide to drive aggressively or if someone else decides to drive aggressively and make me the victim. **** why don't you have the kill forum removed too? That's ridiculous as well if you're going to put my aptitude on the line. By the way, how old are you and what cars have you owned as I am very curious in finding hypocrisy to your views.

I'm 17, I just don't like the idea that you give people thrill rides in parking lots...where my cousin lives, a guy was doing doughnuts in an FD in a parking lot and lost it and killed a man...thats all I'm saying, not hypocritical, not saying that you should have your car taken, I'm just saying that people who pay for their own cars DO have more respect for it. Just be careful.

Even though there is no excuse... I've only done the parking lot thing once and 2 burnouts. That's it. I do have respect for it as I know damn well it'll sit if I mess it up since my dad specifically told me "You chose the Rx-7 instead of the 2004 mach1 , so you choose to fix the Rx-7." I won't do anything in a parking lot if there is one person or car in the same area. I'm talking soccer field parking lots. No lights, no curbs, no people, no cars. If something was to happen it'd be a one car accident with no property damage. Again this is no excuse or justification for a dumb thing to do, but if Ralph Nader had his way- the 7 concept would turn into the corvair for emissions reasons. I drive responsibly 95% of the time. The other 5%=occurences as the 3 mentioned above, those in the kills sections, and just random kills.

Holy crap, a lot of posts have been made overnight....
anyway, i'm not just having the car *given* to me, i had to work for it. Mom told me that if i were an honor student I could get a car of my choosing, so it's not like I had to ask her what car I could have and what car I couldnt have. Also, I have to work for my dad, who owns the local newspaper. And yes, I will be helping pay payment, insurance, oil, gas, and anything else that I want done to the car. By the way, RotaryMagic said something about hoping it's not an R1.... yeah... that's all the yellow FD's were.... CYM RX-7 FD3S R1's..... I've had 2 wrecks, which neither were my fault, and am no where NEAR invincible. I do know my limits now. I'm not going to try to burn out at every stoplight, drift at every corner, or try to impress girls by showing off all the time. I'm not a rich little kid like most people think I am.... I actually have to work to get what I want....

Well technically all cym's are R1s, but I've seen repaints and that is the reason I popped the question. CYM is so rare that alot of people have to get their car painted as such to have it. I hope you don't have a lead foot without cruise control lol. 10mph increase is just an extra toe of pressure.

A repaint is not a CYM, its a repaint. All CYM's are 93 R1s and are quite rare.

I got my FD when i was 17 and i had to do a complete rebuild so I take it really easy but my advice is to spend $200 and take driving lessions like I did that way you can drive it crazy and know what your doing.

There is no reason a 17 year old is going to be any less safe than a 40 year old their first time driving an FD, unless you've taken some kind on professional driving course or car control clinic.

The roads are dangerous, just as many accidents are caused by people going to slow as by people speeding, and the elderly actually get into more accidents than teens.

Just know your limits.

FDS are very solid cars for there size. Bonuses: good brakes, drivers airbag, and great handling. If you feel the need for speed find some safe areas because as some others have mentioned these cars can throw you pretty quick but thats also the reason the ride is so much fun.

I'm about to turn 18 and I have a FD and VR4. They're the only cars I've ever driven for an extensive period of time. I've noticed that having these cars with my experience didn't mean much. If anything it was better to learn on a trickier car to drive but it makes things easier when you drive a lesser car. But one thing younger drivers tend to do is make "dumb" mistakes, I haven't made any yet *knock on wood* but many friends have. Its worse with a car like this because its harder to fix though.

Age has nothing to do with learning to drive a high performance car because anyone can learn no matter the age. But only experience will really help you in not making "dumb" mistakes while driving.

hey, i was born 3 days after you were on the 27 of august, 1986. haha just some info...

anyway... i got my 94 r2 when i was almost 16. i had to work to get it at my dads dealer. i had money saved in the bank and my dad paid for about half of it because he didnt want me to spend so much on a car. i had to work to pay him back until i blew an apex seal. he bought a 95 to sell but when i couldnt drive my car anymore, he loaned that to me. i am now 17 1/2 but i have only got 3 tickets and all of them were fixing tickets. my dad said that the first speeding ticket means my key but i drive safe most of the time (wink, wink)

its very true that you have to know the limits of your car but you cant look at any safety ratings. you can crash in an armored car and die or get into an accident in a miata (no offense) and live. its not so much the car, but the way you driive the car. if you dont drive wreckless, you will be fine. i know you will be tempted to speed or redline alot but be very very careful. i cant stress enought the safety for yourself but you put others in danger. i not saying dont have fun because thats what your suppose to do now but there a time and place for that.


after all everyone has said, i hpoe you take these things into consideration and make a good decision by yourself.

btw, what made you decide to get this car?? was it the movie??

also, whats with people getting mad if someones parents pay thier insurance or buy the car for them... i bought mine myself, but i don't get mad at people who received them as gifts... i hope i can do that for my kid one day....

I'm about to get the car, and I think it's a good decision and with reading the threads from the links that Mahjik sent me I know now, more than ever, to respect my car and know that I am in perfect condition to drive my car and not to abuse it. Those were just HORRIBLE ...

What made me decide to get an FD? Initial D, Import Tuner, and lots of info that I have looked into on them. I know you were joking, but NO, not the damned movie... I didnt even go to see 2 Fast 2 Furious, because I had heard that it was horrible... things like flames coming out the exhaust when the gas is pressed.... *shoots the directors*..... flames come out of your exhaust when you LET OFF of the gas.... why do they spend so much money to make something good if they arent going to make it right?
