FD How to install an Apexi turbo timer

How to install an apexi turbo timer.

I wrote this up as some of the earlier posts were not as clear.

First hook the negative terminal off your battery.
Second locate your turbo timer and Purchase a wiring harness. The extra fifteen dollars will save you a massive amount of time and work. Unscrew the closest panel to the pedals under the steering column. Pop the part off and put it aside, there is a screw holding this panel on the side. The screw is located under the panel on the side closest to the door. (use a long narrow star screw driver to unscrew this, be careful not to break the panel (this panel has two air vents)) then unscrew the plastic cover directly under the steering wheel. there are four screws. Put them aside properly and pop the part off, do not pull it completely off as there is wiring on the right side holding it in place. Then pop the top part of the steering column off. The hardest part is unclipping the harness ( it is the white one on the left of the column.) (do not unplug any of the blue plugs) To unhook this plug you have to pop back the RED clip holding it in place. and then there are two clips on either side of the plug, press down on white part and the plug should just come out. (IM posting these instructions as this part drove me nuts. It is a good idea to use a mirror to figure out where to push on the side of the plug). the best way to plug your new wiring harness back in it to feed it under the silver bracket from the left under the column. don't hook up side which attaches to the white ignition part first. clip everything back into place. Do not put any of the panels you took off back on yet. Pop off the plastic panel on the right side nearest to the gas pedal. Then take the grey and black wires from your relay (the black box with your timer) and Run them under the Silver bracket under the steering column from left to right. Pop off the center console where your shifter and handbrake are located after you take off your shift ****. It just pops off, no screws are on this part. It is wired into the switches so dont pull it off, just let it sit it closest to the passenger seat, I recommend placing a cloth or something under it so you dont scratch up your interior. (I am overly careful) there is a green wire under this panel, it is not easy to see at first because there is a lot of grey sponge covering the wires. This wire is very tiny it is located closest to the passenger side (dull green wire) that runs down under the right well. If you have real trouble finding e-mail me at projectrxseven@aol.com And I might be able to take a picture of it. Lucky for your wiring harness probably came with a really cool wire connector. Take a razor blade and cut off the little black tube covering the green wire being careful not to cut the wire. Once this wire is exposed you're almost good to go. Run your grey and black wires along side of the middle panel leaving enough slack so you can pop back on the panel near the gas pedal. then just feed the wire under into the center console. Splice then connect the green wire with the grey using your connector. If you're careful this should go easily. The wire connector is great because you don't have to cut the wiring or physically splice it. After this is tucked away, the easiest place to mount your ground (black wire is on one of the screws holding the shift boot in place (if you have a manual). There is also U connector in your harness packet, use that to connect the wire and tighten the bolt.
Now, plug back your negative battery connector and put your key in the ignition and start your rx7 up. Follow instructions as how to set your timer. Take the key out of the ignition and test it, and check to see if the handbrake security feature is working. I did not mess with using the af ratio as you need upgraded sensors for valid readings. Put back your panels in the order you removed them. I'd rather not cut my panels so i installed my timer on the left side of the steering column under the handbrake light- awd light and so on with the double sided tape that came with the timer. It is easy and concealable to run your timer through the opening for the handle for popping your hood. Then run the wiring under the gap on the left side of the steering column. Everything looks pretty clean that way, and your timer is easy to read. Sit back and marvel at technology for an hour, watching your car run and turn off each time you take the key out of the ignition.

Haha. Hey, the least anyone can do is figure out how to read the instructions. Broken down a little.

lolz I was just kidding about that, good work on the descriptions. I just installed mine not that long ago do you know what the proper readings of the voltage and A/F reading should be?

Photo of the wiring

I have a photo showing which Wire of the Apex'i Turbo Timer connects to the ignition wiring of the car. I forgot which wire is which but the color of the wiring should be very easy to distinguish.

I was thinking of getting the Harness but at that time I need to special order it. I couldn't wait so I just use some T Tap and Flat QD Terminal to hook up the wiring. It is not that hard to find out which wire is which if you know basic electrical work. It took me about 2 hours for the whole installation. Most of the time I spent was to hook up the A/R ratio wiring from the ECU.

Here is the pic of the installed timer. Where do you guys locate that time?

Unhappy

By the way, I still couldn't figure out how to adjust the parameters to get correct A/F ratio reading from the Apex's Turbo Timer.

Can any help???

It is very important that you use a harness when you are tempering with ignition wires, after a while you will have a situation where you'll have ignition problems. It only costs around $8 why didn't you just order it?

I have no problem for years what so ever. There are only 3 wires to tap, and the Harness is just an adapter for easy plug and play purpose (which also T's off from the main ignition wiring) I don't see any problem as long as you know what you doing.
