I found Type RM in parts diagrams but nowhere online could I find a description of a Type RM or it included in any trim list. Only other people saying they have a Type RM and asking for details.

I've searched high and low. Still no detail of a RM anywhere other than parts fiche. For anyone interested, here is a really good list that covers most (all?) of the japanese trims. You should use chrome with translation on, or another way to translate.

i have for sure seen model tables, and i agree, i don't recall an RM. i wonder if its a type R with a manual or something..

its on the sticker it does mean something, options basically are the 16 or 17 wheel and 2 or 4 seats

Type R is like the R1 models here, manual only.

Looking through Japanese FSM's. The "F125-1CO" designation on the lower left. F125 is associated with the Type R trim.

I was able to confirm this with pictures from other data plates found online, and other FXXX numbers. The F122 in the original top post is a Type R2, even though the Type R2 designation isn't present on the sticker.

The 16" wheels were standard and 17" wheels were optional on this year Type R. 4 Seat was standard and 2 was not optional. Maybe the "M" is to denote this one had 17" wheels? I dont have a way to translate the PDF and cant copy the kanji but maybe there's something there.

that is it exactly. there is a table somewhere with all of those models, we don't always get it in the US... the US parts catalog does spit out the FDxx number, so if anyone is interested we could build the table...

I know this is many years old, but I'm fairly new to the FD and also have a Japan import, mine says GRADE: TYPE-R2
Anyone maybe know if that means anything? I'll attach a picture of the sticker.

Thanks.

There were some cars that went direct to specialty tuner shops. These may have got a special Type designation.

The stickers are generic. The Special category is blank on our FD's

There are many, many inaccuracies in the above article. Eg there were not 500 of each Spirit R Type A, Type B, Type C. There were 325 Type RZ (version VI type) made, not 175. There were 650 Type R Bathurst R made, not 500. Etc etc.

The most concise spec level feature summary for every JDM model I've seen is this: RX7.net.nz

The most accurate information on build numbers (for version V and version VI models that is) is based on a manual review of every single VIN, here: GTR-Registry.com - Mazda RX-7 FD3S Series 8 VIN Table

It really is. Credit to Gomez from fdrx7.com / ausrotary.com, a fellow Melburnian, for all the hard work.
