FDs are beautiful cars, and having one as a daily driver is an absoloutly exhilarating experience! I have my FD as a DD (although it is off the road at the moment) and a 1.9 diesel pile of crap as a backup/lugging **** around car. I agree totally with what everyone says here, get a good car and maintain it well and the car will love you. Ive had my car two months, and here is pretty much what has happened.

Bought car, coolant seal went - fixed with radweld
ran sweet
changed oil
did a rats nest vac hose job (to try and cure an acceleration problem, didnt work)
changed spark plugs (cured problem)
changed brake pads
changed coolant

Now the car is off the road because im going to fit a new coolant pump to it - mine is leaking around the gasket to the block, and the car has 65k miles so im changing the whole pump, just waiting for it to come.

I am currently spending about $150 a week on gas, but i use the premium stuff (98 octane) and gas is ALOT more expensive over here than in the US (a tank of 98 ron is $110)

I use mineral oil, Castrol 10w-40 and i check it every time i stop for fuel. I try and keep the level around the half way mark. I also check my overflow tank every time i stop at the gas station. I wash and wax the car meticuously every week. (4 hours or so i spend each sunday)

The car is totally stock apart from Apexi filters and suspension with a Racing beat back box (nice and quiet)

My honest opinion is you cannot buy an RX7 and expect to have it on the road all the time, they do spend time breaking and being fixed, and you never know what can happen one day when your driving along. Its good to have a second car as a beater just in case, but i see absoloutely NO PROBLEM whatsoever with having an FD as a DD. I start to miss my baby horribly if i dont drive her in a couple of days, and i feel so excited when i get back into her. Nothing matches the thrill and/or comfort of driving an RX7 and i wouldnt swap her for the world now. I hang in motorsport circles, so out of everyone that i know my stock FD is the slowest of the lot, but it gets the most looks (and smiles from the ladies!) and everyone i take out in it cant believe how refined and comfortable it is for what is essentially a two seater racing machine.

If you can afford the car, a couple of hundred dollars gas and a couple of hundred dollars maintainance per month, go for it. However, be wary if you are really stretching your budget to get this car, because as people say - you shouldnt skimp on parts.

Good luck, and i hope you enjoy your new found love affair with the FD

Yea, after looking over many many post I know what you say is true and much more. It isn't always going to be on the road for me and it will cost more money than most other cars, but hey...its an FD

I daily drove mine for about a year no probs. I bought a 323 for daily duties and i can honestly say i prefer it this way. The 323 has heaps more space, likes dirt roads and stone chips and i can cart around heaps of stuff with good fuel economy. Every time i get into the FD now its so much more enjoyable....like a special occasion. Im driving it coz i want to drive it, not for just regular work etc.

Now it gets washed once a week, not everyday j/k

I cannot imagine driving an FD in the snow, it must be such a handful. Driving it in the wet is hard enough! I still dont dare floor it at all in my FD in the wet unless im driving on a totally straight road with no camber (too many incidents of putting foot down in third on off camber roads and going sideways at 60mph), so god knows what snow is like!
