fastes engine R&R

I recently pulled the engine out of my fd and replaced it with and very healthy used engine, which is actally for sale. I was wondering what is the fastest that you guys have remove and replaced your engine. I had to transfer everything from my old engine. I changed the vac lines and tie wrapped them. I also resealed the oil pan and scrapped off all the told gaskest and put new ones on. It took me about 20 hours over the weeken. It was running on Sunday night. I think book time is like 18 hours but i took numerous brakes, so i'm thinking actual working hours would be about 14-16 hours. By the way i ddi this at work on a rack. I also did something stupid, i pulled the engine with the tranny and it took me 30 minutes to do that, the driverside engine mount kept on getting stuck. I realized that people pull the engine and tranny together is because its probably easier to do it like that on the floor. And i was really taking my time since i was working on my freaking days off.

I can pull and strip an engine in under 3 hours... its about the same to put back together...

This is also by pulling the tranny first...

It takes me about 30mins to pull the tranny out about 30 minutes to strip the engine once it is out. I'm talking about starting with a car that is complete in everway and replaceing the bare engine block. I dont think you can do this in 6 hours. But if it does i guess you are more efficient than I.

It took us about 6-8 hours of straight work to remove the engine....Im assuming the next time we do it, it will only take about 4, and decrease from thier as experiance comes.

I can pull a stock motor from a running/driving car in about 3-4 hrs without working incredibly hard but working quickly.

I'm talking about the entire process, jacking it up, draining fluids, etc.

Oh and I always pull the trans with the motor, even if it is fine. I remove the motor mounts from the engine, leave both wiring harnesses on the motor/trans. It is much easier to deal with the slave cyl, clutch, starter and wiring when the engine and trans is on the floor.

Also you can leave the pre-cat or DP attached too. This really simplifies things IMHO.

We'll set the stop watch in a couple of weeks then

It looks like the week after the autocross would work best, but that's the week before labor day. If you wanted to knock off from work on that friday and pull my engine that'd be great. if you have family obligations I completely understand.

OK. Do you have an air compressor? That probably takes 30min or more off the time. Pretty much everything on the bottom of the car comes off in 10-15min with an impact gun.

Yup, air compressor and an impact wrench. I'll drain everything beforehand, and we should be ready to go.

Not sure what I'll do about the ac though. I'm not sure I want to vent what's left of my r12 into the atmosphere, and I won't be needing it for the LS1 (r134)

3-4 hours sounds about right to pull out the engine, yeah i realized that it would have been easier if i taken off the engine mounts. Working on the rack is a lot easier than on the floor, but i guess everyone know that. Maybe next time i do it i'll time myself.
