Yes most are. I know for the red they have 2 different paints. Paint code nu92 has clearcoat and is a 3 stage paint system, nu is a single stage paint no clearcoat. I think the rest of the colors came with clearcoat.

The best way to tell is just to get some wax and wax the hood. If you get a little color off on the waxing pad then you don't have clear. If you don't get any color off then you DO have clear.
I'd like to say black isn't clearcoated but, I'd also like to say depending on the model and year it could be? I don't think anyone has ever clearly been able to answer this.

I have already waxed it once, and yes, the pad turned a little black. I thought it was dirt that didn't come off from washing, but I guess maybe it is just not a clearcoated paint job. That really sucks!

If you are going to stay with the factory color and are just looking to "refresh" the paint it shouldn't cost you that much. Your probably looking at about $2000 US. If there is body work that needs to be fixed then it will be more. I had my car repainted and had some body work done to it and changed the color to lamborghini orange and that cost me $10 000 CDN (about $8 000 US). My car pic is in my avatar.

Manny, the prices I've been quoted for a first-class paint job (same color, all dents repaired, etc) range from $7000-10,000 in the Bay Area. In midwest dollars, that's probably about $4-7k.
A "good" quality paint job is probably about 2/3 of that. Anything less is NOT a good quality job, I don't care what anyone says (assuming there's no connections and you aren't doing some of the prep yourself).

Sorry to hijack the thread... but what is Zaino? Also, is it possible to wet sand the existing paint (my paint is pretty nice but could use work) and then apply clear coat?

If you really want to know if your car had clear or not. Do a vin check at the dealer, they should be able to give you the paint code and if it originally had clear.
Yes you can wet sand and reclear the existing paint. I would suggest, if you are not sure of what you are doing get it done at a shop.

It's my understanding that none of the "solid" color cars (Brilliant Black, Vintage Red, Chaste White) were clearcoated, and that only the "metallics" (Competition Yellow, Montego Blue, Silver Stone, Pearly White) received clearcoat. This is pretty standard, or was at the time these cars were manufactured.
There was no difference in the paint on the various models.
