Question Is F Con any good?

My friend (who is getting a 3kGTTT) is telling me to skip buying an aem and just get an F Con and Boost Controller. What do you guys think? I think you guys no more about 7's than that Piston-lover

The fcon is a piggyback that offers no adjustability afaik, the AEM unit (not for sale yet) offers everything when it comes to tuning. They are two completely different units, the HKS unit doesn't come close to the AEM.

ps. Disregard all comments above if you are talking about the Fcon V, that one is tuneable.. I don't know much about it though.

I was told that the 1st gen. Fcons are 8bit and run on the lean side. If you add a AFC or a GCC, you should have any prob. You will just need to fine tune it. The recent AFC do have a type of fuzzy logic to them to react to on and off throttle loads...etc.

The fcon is upgradeable. You just order the chip by telling hks your setup and they build one for you. It's also cheap, like $60. Also, you can adjust the fuel by turning the dial. I think its range is 1-9 or 0-9, the lowest number being no fuel adjustment. I have it and my egt never goes above 700C. My probe is on my downpipe and that is the range that is recommended. As long as it does what it suppose to do, that's fine with me. If you don't need datalog and the extra stuff that the newer fuel management system have, then it's all good. They are cheap nowaday. You might be able to find a good one for $200 or so on ebay.

F-Con V Pro is fully tunable and seems to be what most of the cars in the option videos use. SP can give you more information on it.

Would one of the cheap f-cons be sufficient to help prevent detonation etc on a BPU FD? I'd get a fully programmable one if I were going to do any more than just intake/exhaust, but can't afford one right now. :P

How about an M2 ECU, with a J&S? That should be good enough for intake, exhaust (and I hope that includes a DP).

f-con .,.. gosh , i had an f-con before , but recently i have switch over to the power-fc. Is hard to get f-con tuned and not much people knows how to tuned f-con. My previous engine was broken during the dyno tunning of f-con. Frankly, is a good piggy-bank provided if there is someone there knows it well. Beside tat, Power-fc is a good choice

Honestly even though I'm a big HKS guy...for the FD the PFC is great.

Yes in Japan most tuners use the FCON V Pro but then again there are more tuning shops. The FCON V Pro is the best system out there but if you don't have acces to a Pro dealer who has a dyno then what good is the best when you can't use it.

The FCON S, FCON V and FCON V Pro is a god send for supra owners because it allows them to get rid of their MAF and go to speed density w/o the use of a VPC and GCC (additional like $2k)

For the FD since we don't have MAF and the PFC has some end user tunability it is fine.

I've heard F-con v pro has wide band 02 feed back
so if you set certain ratio of A/F with wide band it adjust it self in any situation.
so you don't need dyno. just get wide band and drive hard then it tune it self.
sound really great..

may be I'm wrong but that is what I heard from guy in japan.

I think even the S is great with the GCC, I had great experiences with it, I put down 397rwhp@17psi and 407rwhp@17.8 with the HKS+GCC, I'd say get it and rule. BTW I didn't like the PowerFC at all except for the display(commander)

The FCON V Pro and FCON S will be available in the US but they are still doing testing. Right now they are just finishing up testing on the FCON S for the supra and will be moving on to other projects soon. The problem with the FCON V Pro is that it comes with no base maps...so base maps that can be put in my PRO dealers have to be created.
