Hmmm lets see! The person receiving this engine lives in CA. Maybe the extra plugs help with emissions after modifications? The two extra side plugs could easily be set-up for waisted spark. This would make spark timing the extra plugs easy since they would always fire at the same degree. Oh well that's my guess.

Rotary Race Cars often run 3 spark plugs. This can help a bit with power at high rpm. Sometime up to 2% or so. Usually this is not necessary in anything but a dedicated racecar.
