epic turbo problem
ok so a few weeks ago i lost boost, the engine would cut out at 4k rpm. so i reset the ecu ( pressing the brake pedal alot ) and it boosted fine again ( keep in mind the car wasn't perfect when i bought it last year from the closest importer to me, had boost spiking and would idle funny, but im not laughing ) anyway so about a week ago the engine cut out again at 4k rpm. i reset the ecu again and the engine would cut out at 4k rpm still. so i tried again and still nothing. so i drove for about 40 mins and kept slowly revving up to 4k and i would put it in neutral and rev it up a bit. and finaly i was able to get the first turbo to come into action but would cut out at 5.5k rpm. so i just kept doing the same thing and i was able to rev it more and more, except the secondary turbo wouldn't come online even tho i was eventually able to rev it to redline. so the next few days i had to do the same thing for it to boost, drive around for almost an hour doing the same thing. but then after 3 days of having to do this i was boosting in 3rd doin about 160kmph and i smelt something and instantly a bunch of grey/blue smoke came into the cockpit. so obviously i eased off the throttle and let it slow down and the smoke went away. and i knew because it did that once i had a good feeling it would smoke again if i boosted so i speed up and just when it started to boost the smoke came back so i knew i have to bringer home. so i did without boosting anymore. i only drove it once more and it wouldn't boost ( wasnt expecting it to ) and so i just parked it.. just that experience made me hate turbo's. only in the last 2 years have a actually looked at imports, i've always been into muscle cars so i have no experience with turbo's.. i've known about the early year FD's having problems with the stock twin turbo system and i figure i've got that problem cause my FD is a 91'. the only power performance mods that i know of is hks hardpiping, 4" apexi exhaust, twin plate clutch and the mods list when was being imported said it had aftermarket oil coolers, don't know if it does for sure.. anyway i'd just like to hear some input about this issue. you can call me an embarrassment to the rx7 community if i did something wrong.. but once i get my problem diagnosed and have enough money i'm having a N/A 4 rotor built

Well First off stop trying to push your car to boost. If its cutting out at 4k stop driving your car and figure out why its cutting out don't keep pushing it thats a good way to blow your motor. First thing to check would be a vacuum leak. Check the y pipe couplers and the Y pipe itself and then if thats ok check the vacuum lines under the uim. Did you change your fuel filter since you bought your car if so change it now. Lastly about the 4 rotor just so you know to have one of those built it would probably be near $60,000 to have a shop do it.

i believe its a stock ecu. and yes i have an apexi boost and water temp guage. im not sure how much boost exactly its running cause once the secondary turbo starts i get boost spiking. but it seems to be around 5 to 7 psi somewhere in there
