Electical problem drivng me crazy. BEEP BEEP BEEP
I'm trying to figure out what's causing this!
First off, the Seat Belt lamp keeps flashing and beeping while driving. When I fasten the seat belt, the flash continues but the beep subsides.
Also, the outer door handle key illuminator is acting weird. When I lift and hold the exterior driver's door handle, the key light flashes! If I lift the handle and release it immediatly, the lamp goes off on the release! (It's supposed to stay on solid for an extended amount of time after you release the handle.)
Also, the security lamp no longer flashes. The lamp lites when I lock the car, but does not blink there after.
When I get in/out of the car- when the door is open, the ignition lamp blinks as also!!
Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.

hmmm as far as the seat belt is concerned i would check the wire under the seat. its like a little tiny wire with a clip on it. if you unplug it it, the light shouldnt go on and off like it is now. it should just stay off. i have racing seats in my fd and i just left it unhooked and it seems to work fine.

Yes, I saw the wire with the black harness. I'll do that as a last resort...as a jury rig. Somehow I'm thinking all these problems are related somehow since they started at the same time. Could it be a fuse maybe?

I searched long and hard on this forum and could not find anything that came close to my problem. It may be an electrical fluke.
apexkw, I disconected the seat belt harness under the seat to prevent myself from going crazy until I find the correct solution. Although the beeps went away, the flashes continued...with or without the seatbelt fastened. Drives me nutso!!
I get flashes where I should get otherwise and get nothing where I sould get flashes!! Anyone?

TurboFD, good point but do you think a faulty door sensor could also effect the key hole illuminator, the ignition light, and the security light?

the flashes go away after the normal couple flashes that its supposed to do though right? mine does...so that makes me think that something else is your problem....did you check the fuses/ relays yet?

apexkw, No, I didn't check the fuses or relays yet. Do you know where the fuses are located for these lamps? thanks
alberto_mg, I had a new clarion head unit installed about a month ago but the seat belt lamp flashing and beeping started last night. That's when I noticed the other funky goings on. Nothing else was recently installed/altered. I was also thinking about a grounding problem, but I wouldn''t know where to start since I'm not a RX7 guru.
Do you guys agree that there's mostlikely one cause for all these problems? Thanks guys for responding.

there is a fuse box above the dead pedal on the drivers side. i wonder if the guys who installed your headunit ran a wire there for power and something is loose now. could just be something loose and it keeps resetting itslef now. i dont have my manual with me now...i am letting my friend borrow it...but i can check it in a day or two when i get time. anyways fuses/relays are above the deadpedal, next to the battery, and by pass headlight "two sets in this area"

I checked the fuses near the battery and above the rest pedal and they all looked good. I checked the wires near the ignition lamp...it looked ok...I think...I really don't know what I'm looking at. I opened the middle console to check why the ashtray light wasn't lit and turns out it's freakin missing. Would the fact that the ashtray light is missing have something to do with this?
I looked for the bulb under the seats for an hour with no luck. Freakin hassels...I can't believe it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
My gut feeling tells me that all these problems are tied together somehow.

In looking at the manual for another thread, I see the seat belt switch, security light, door key illumination, ignition illumination, beeper, and send for the seat belt light ALL come from the cpu No. 2, located in the driver's side footwell. Your problems most likely lie in that little chunk of circuitry, though the exact cause I wouldn't know. I know the one on my FC died, and I simply replaced it with a used one from a junkyard, and all beeping problems ceased. But I think you're right, the problems ARE related, as they all tie back to that one component.

Sorry, but I thought I replyed to your post earlier when you were online. I don't know what happened, but I went back in the browser history and it said that "no thread was specified". Sorry for the late response.
Aw man thanks so much for finding info on this! Is this "chunk of circuitry" located above the foot rest pedal? What do I do next? Spurvo, if at all possible, could you provide more data on this? It would be tremendously appreciated. I went to PepBoys and bought a bulb for the ash tray and now that works. I was hoping that popping that bulb in would solve this whole problem....wishfull thinking
I noticed more wackiness just now. As I lock the door with the key, the security lamp doesn't even initially light up and I get no flashes there-after either. AND, I also noticed, when I UNlock the door, and hold the key in the UNlocked position, the security light starts flashing as quick as the ignition light and keyhole illuminator light!!! Driving me absolutely crazy.
Spurvo, thanks so much.

spurvo, I managed to download the 94 manual and searched around for the section you were describing. So far....I noticed the security lamp, the ignition and door key illumination, and seat belt warning lamp are right next to each other on connector-A (20-pin) on CPU 2 (page Z-92 of the Wiring Diagram). I can't make out the Terminal letter for each of the four. I tried to associate this info with the other pages related to [J-4] but my head started spinning.
Spurvo, thanks again.

Dave from KDR Performance emailed me confirming that CPU#2 is mostlikely the culprit just like Spurvo had initially described.
Next step,....How much should a used (or new) CPU#2 cost for a 94 RX7 and is it easy to install? Do I have to remove the foot rest pedal/kick pannel?

Yeah, you gotta pull the panel, but that's not real hard. I have no idea on the cost, but call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda for a good price, probably the best unless you can prove you race your car. Search for his number on this forum in this section. He's "everywhere"!!

CantGoStraight, is the driver's door plug corroded? I don't know...I'll have to check. But anyways, how is this related to CPU#2? The two are not near each other, correct?
I would like to know if CPU2 is expensive and easy to replace. Any advice will be appreciated greatly.

Sorry for not posting the outcome right away. Yes, CPU#2 was the culprit. All these associated probelms are now fixed. I purchased CPU#2 at http://www.mazdaformance.com/ and paid about $160. If mazdaformace doesn't have any, I would try either http://www.mazmart.com/ or http://www.mazdarecycling.com/. When you order your CPU, make sure they are clear on whether your car is AT or manual trans.
It's a piece of cake to replace. Just remove the driver's kickpanel and foot rest and and CPU2 is centered directly behind the side kickpannel. It's black and must be about 2.5 - 3 inches wide by 6 inches high and you should see I think 4 electrical plugs attached to it, one of which is the main 20-pin white plug. Disconnect these plugs and unscrew the single bolt holding it in. Once you get the bolt off, it has to slide a certain way(forget) to unfasten it from the bottom clip. Should take no more than an half hour from s to f.. If you would like to temporarally jury rig the lights/buzzers, just unplug that large white plug until your new CPU2 arrives....just be careful not to leave your lights on because you won't hear anything!!
