The enfini Y pipe has an aluminum crossover tube, and does not use a rubber coupler to the crossover tube, but rather bolts to it.

Are there any performance gains using the Efini?

I was just about to answer your question when I saw your avatar. That's pretty offensive. This is supposed to be an adult site where people exchange usefull information. I suspect some people, like me, won't want to help you after looking at that.

I also wondered how you could get away with that. Please change it. I don't want to look at some stick figure wacking off every time you post.

Thumbs down I don't like your avatar either...

It's only a matter of time before an admin makes you change the stick figure to something else...

The y-pipe is a good mod but its a real bitch to install, I did one for a friend and it turned a simple 1/2 an hour non-seq conversion in to a 6-10 hour horror story. I suggest taking off the airpump if you do this mod first. Also, there are no performance gains, all it can give you is the relibility that your cross over pipe won't leak or pop off.

Good luck

Cool Thank You

it's not about sensitivity, it's about respecting others...

Now to your question...Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development claims a 10-hp increase with using an Anfini Y-pipe...

Mazda Comp claimed a 10HP gain. I don't recall the install as being that bad but plan on an afternoon. Do get the airpump out of the way & use a metal gasket to connect the pipe to the turbos.

you get some more power out of it, at least I felt it. You need to remove the intake, airpump, and rear turbo air inlet. It is really not that bad but I would plan on about 1 hour. It took me slightly less the second time I did it but still a PITA because you have to remove a lot of stuff that's in the way.

consider what kind of intercooler you will use later as this may pose future problems with some ICs (i.e. M2)

I also noticed a nice boost in power when I installed mine. Enough to the point where I needed to adjust my boost controller because I was still using the stock ECU back then.

I currently have a med M2 IC and was interested in picking up an efini y pipe. But M2 says that some modifications would be required to make them work. Has anyone that has a M2 med IC installed a Efini Y pipe? If so what exactly did you have to do to it?

Thanks!

I think you have to cut off of the cross over pipe, so you can hook up the M2 IC pipe??

Rx7 Store

doesn't have the bottom part of the Efini Y-pipe--it's on backorder.

FWIW, Jason has a nice polished set, but again only cross over pipe is available. The bottom part which is the Y-pipe is on backorder from Mazda...

Jason has the best deal at $225, and a fully polished version at $299. SR Motorsports sells the Efini Y pipe for $245. If you're a Mazdaspeed Motorsports Development member, the Y pipe is <$200. Mazdaspeed won't have the Efini Y pipes available until the first of the new year 2003...

man, you guys must have been leaking bad or something because how does replacing a pipe (which is damn near the same size) give you any more power???

BTW: is this the butt dyno talking or do you got actual proof via a real dyno? If this is the butt dyno talking, I got a sweet *** set of stickers that will give you about 30-50 more rwhp, it only cost 100 bucks

Personnaly, I don't know anybody that can tell if you got a 5-10hp increase in hp by just driving the car after you install something. The weather getting colder at night probally give you more hp then the actual mod hehe.

The efini ypipe will usually increase boost by 1psi which will lead to power gains.

~4yrs ago I added the Efini pipe to my 93 R1 when it was completely stock. A completely stock car usually runs out of breath around 6800-7200rpm. Adding the Efini pipe seemed to give a little more breathing room at the top.

As to how it adds power being almost the same size, here are a few reasons...

The rubber coupler on the stock plastic pipe don't really help flow. Under boost the coupling hose will expand away from the pipes it is clamped to, this makes for very rough pipe that the air has to flow through. The Efini pipe has a larger ID where the cheesy plastic mount fits on the original crossover pipe. Finally the y-pipe itself is slightly different, the nipple for the BOV sticks into the stock casting farther than it does on the Efini pipe. Finally it fits really nice compared to the original pipe. That is the main reason I like it so much.

Jeff
