You're probably @ 300 already or close to it. And BTW, why are you *so* hung up on that number?

It seems your turbo transition (see dip on graph) is under 4,000 rpms, this should be closer to 4,400 unless you have changed the transition.

mustang dyno

I had my FD tuned at rx-7 store in columbus ohio, with blitz intake, efini y-pipe, MILD port, HKS turbo back exhaust and 12psi i made 277whp and 217tq on a mustang dyno, they also told me that with correction the power is realisticly 310-320 on a non-mustang dyno. I am still on stock intercooler as well and am very surprised buy your low hp numbers even on a mustang dyno.

Well I don't have it tuned to the max.. I wan't it to be reliable. I would be happy with a solid 300rwhp. That is an amazing power 2 weight ratio

I would recommend an efini y-pipe. Nice car btw.

Very clean.. Who made the bumper..? Or did you have the front licence plate shaved off? Why not go with a Fluidyne radiator next? Then a GReddy ProfecB boost controler, ignition amp, better clutch, maybe a flywheel, w/ 325 rwhp i would throw a new suspension, and maybe even a kaaz 1.5 lsd

I saw a guy here in San Diego, CA get exactly 255 rwhp at a dyno day with his 100% stock 1995 R1. So I guess with proper tuning at 12 psi you should do better. Of course different dynos can often give much different readings. The whole world of horsepower reading for wheel dynos should always be taken as a rough approximation anyway.

I still think that everything might be okay with his numbers but the guy who did the dyno didn't take his car up to 7,000 - 7,500, or the peak horsepower "zone". Maybe he got scared off by the AFR?

Here, check this dyno out (I pulled an example from the dyno section of the forum):

See how his horsepower continues to climb until a little above 7,000 RPMs? I would think you might have this occur on your car if your dyno was run up to 7,500 RPMs. If you cut the above dyno off at 6,000 RPMs, the person would think that he "only" made 350 to the wheels, not the 380 or so he's actually making.

Also, you are correct that the engine needs to be pulled to check the exhaust gasket. This is definately not something to check now - I think the problem is that the dyno run only goes up to 6,000 RPM. Hence, there really isn't a problem at all.

david hayes , do you know what mods where on that dyno sheet that you posted? pretty impressive.

i didnt notice the dyno only went to 6k , this could very well have made a difference. but i have herd numerous times that mustang dynos read low.

his hp would not have gone up much higher. Looking at the curve it looks like it was near the peak give or take 5 and would have starting dipping southward.

no, I didn't note the mods. I went to the dyno section of the forum and grabbed the first example I found. My guess, at that RWHP level, is more than the average mods. probably a ported engine also.

as for the mustang dyno reading low, wouldn't this mean the HP level, not the RPM level? Haven't heard that mustangs are incorrect on the RPM level. that wouldn't be good, would it? how would you tune if the RPM and AFR readings were off?

the curve does look pretty flat on top though. it's very similar to my dyno when i had the exhaust gasket problem. my curve flattened out also at the 6,000 RPM level. pettit was a bit perplexed by this and we didn't uncover the problem until severel months later when the engine was yanked out for the 3 rotor conversion. i still am not sure this is the issue though and the numbers posted, when corrected, are not bad. i would be concerned though with the topping out at 6,000 RPMs though.

i also just went through most of the dynos included in the dyno section of the forum and 99.9% of them have RWHP continuing to climb until 7,000 or so RPMs. I think I'd talk to the person that did the dyno run and find out why he stopped at 6,000 RPMs. If it is because the car won't pull any more HP aboe this level, then I'd say something else is wrong.

just my 2 cents worth though!

He didn't necessarily stop the dyno at 6000rpm. The graph that was posted is a trace graph of the dyno, not the actual HP graph. If they don't have the values set correctly in the trace graph then it will cut off the rest of the dyno run. It's hard to tell from that graph.
Another possibility is they didn't set the values correctly for that specific run. On a mustang dyno you put in a start mph and ending mph, basically a window that records the data. If they had it set at too low of a MPH then the dyno will just shut down once the car passes thru that window. In this case it could have been at 6000prm

Here is a link to my dyno at 12psi:
https://www.rx7club.com/time-slips-dyno-121/dyno-sheets-%40-12psi-298793/

Mods are in my sig. You should be making about the same power as me with the mods you have.

He is not running a ported motor which makes a big difference.

Ya I just realized that; but at least he should get 300hp at the wheels with his setup don't you think? I'm not sure how much more power a street ported motor gets.

isn't this still a problem jason? if he doesn't have a trace of the dyno run above 6,000 RPMs, he still doesn't have a complete picture of what his car can do does he?

regarding putting in the starting and ending MPH, this is still the same point. if the ending MPH was set too low and the run ended then he still doesn't have a complete idea of how his car performs (ie up to 7,500 RPMs). so, he could be making more HP and not know it.

jason, you run a mustang dyno right? what would you suggest that he do? do you feel he has an accurate picture of his car's performance from the dyno posted?
