Dying Tan Carpets Black
I did some searching around here and saw a few threads going over dying the dash and other miscellaneous plastic parts. Didn't see anything about the carpet though. I have tan carpet in great condition, and don't feel like paying $200 for some used black carpet (that and it's a pain to find), does anyone have any experience with bleaching carpet and using carpet dye on these 3rd gen rugs? Doesn't seem like it should be too much of an issue.. I planned on trying it out on my floor mats before I hit the carpet and see how it turns out.

If you are looking for cost savings and a temporary good looking carpet, then dying is what you want. I would recommend dying if you plan on selling the car soon, or you plan on eventually getting black carpets. The reason is dye will never last as long as a real black carpet. It WILL fade eventually, and then you'll have to dye it again, or replace the rug anyway because the tan color is ruined (once you black, you can't go back .
I did get tan seats and rug dyed tan in a convertable car I had once because there was some dirt or something that would not come out. I know because I went to a detailer to make sure that there was no way to get it out. I decided to dye it, and it looked great. Noone ever sat on the back seat and rug, and it still faded over time.
Personally, I think that if you are going to be an FD owner, get good/best parts throughout the car for both prestige and practicality. This is not a Toyota, so don't treat it like one. You have a nice car, why go the cheap with rugs? Have your baby looking nice inside and out. You'll thank me in the long run.

You definately have a point on this one, and this would have never even been an option had my seller not fallen through on me. Decided at the last minute to sell to a local buyer after my payment was sent. But that's another story. Just seems the availability of black carpet is horrid, and I really want to put these R2 seats in (I hate the stock tan leather seat, keep sliding around on corners!) Unless someone has some black carpet they're selling...

Jspec,
Can you do me and I'm sure other a favor and weigh the R1/R2 seats and the touring as well? I was wondering if there was any weight savings involved with them since I have the touring seats as well.
Thanks

I'd weigh the seats as soon as I take out the tourings. I know if I take out the seats right now, I won't find carpet for another month or so.. Finding black carpet is proving to be a pain!
