Technically it's still just a car, and there shouldn't be any problems. Just make sure to check all your fluid levels. Use cruise control, if you still have it, and you should be okay. There's lots of guys on here that make long trips in these things and don't have any problems.

Anybody feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

Its a car. Its meant to be driven. Just be sure to keep an eye on the important things like water temp, oil leve, etc. just like you would with any other car. I personally see no reason to be worried about it if you've not been having issues with it up to this point

That's my opinion at least.

enjoy the drive!

Check the oil every 500 miles, average oil consumption is about 1 quart every 1000miles. Now is a time to see if your MOP is working properly =)

If you dont have cruise control, that can be rough! I find highway distances of more than 50 miles to be uncomfortable in my R2(no cruise). I'm 6'2", 225 with long muscular legs and my right leg starts to cramp up. I'd recommend, in addition to taking breaks along the way, take off you shoes. I find it alittle added relief on long drives.

For comparison, my buddy drove his R2 from New Jersey to Las Vegas in about 2 to 3 days. It's something like 2400 miles! Car was fine and it's a modded single with stock cooling system!

I've driven from NJ to OK/TX at least 6 times, usually in less than 2 days.

On one occasion, I left Fort Bragg NC at 9am and arrived at Shreveport LA at 9pm. About 1000 miles in 12 hours, and this included stopping for lunch and fuel twice

Upstate NY to Florida straight through in June, no problem. Even had a high speed highway race in NC along the way.

i drove from florida to michigan a few years ago in my FD that is pretty modded, FMIC, large street port, non-seq twins, etc. etc.. and the drive was so much fun, luckily. Alot of things could have gone wrong, but I made it there just fine and replaced the alternator (due to the drive) a few days later, I didnt stop much, which is probally why, because the only stops I made were to get gas, and stay overnight 1 night. good luck with your drive, colorado is awesome

The Rx is at its best cruising on the highway! Put on the cruise control the whole time so you dont boost, and you might even get good gas mileage. Unless something random happens, there is nothing you should have to worry about. Its actually alot of fun taking road trips in this car if you ask me...

The biggest problem? All the bugs the nose of the car will collect. Don't let 'em sit on there for a week. They can damage the paint. I bring a couple of rolls of paper towels and every night I wet some towels thoroughly and wash all the bugs off. The heat can really bake 'em on.

I also check the radiator (and oil cooler) for bug collection. Pry the big ones off with a stick to make sure your airflow is good.

Stuff a qt. of oil in one of the rear bins and check the oil level. Other than that, the seat can get uncomfortable after a while. So getting out of the car every three hours to walk around is a good idea.

It's a car. It's meant to be driven.

Unless you're me, and my oil consumption is far less than that.

Highway cruising is the least damaging form of driving for this car, so oil consumption should remain low if the MOP and engine are in good shape. Either way, I'd check the oil the first few times I stop just to see if the oil level is going down at all. You'll probably find that it's plenty to check it each day of driving.

While I like driving my FD, I'd rent a (Ford) Escort and drive that instead. Save money, lots of money.

Personally, I've never driven my car more than ~700 miles in a day, checked the oil at the end of the day.

Besides the problems every car can have, you should be OK. These cars love the highway. Just check your oil 100 miles out and then every time you fill up. As long as your antifreeze is good and the tires are the right pressure, you should do fine. It's those damn bugs on the grill that **** me off. O yea, stay away from Arkansas. The roads are the worse in the country. Of course it's not on your way, but in case you want to take the scenic route, don't do Ark. Please no Razorback flaming. Ohio has the second worse roads.

I drove my FD from MI to CA. It was great. However, that was with a mostly stock suspension. I think it would be rough now with the stiff suspension.
