Drive the FD 3000 miles or ship it?
I need to get my FD from Miami to Los Angeles. Im weighing out whether to ship it or do a cross country road trip. If anyone knows any info about shipping a car that far please share... I have no idea where to start. It is very important that if I do ship the car that no one has to drive it at all.

I just had a car shipped from CA to MI last month... I had Intercity do it for me and they did an awesome job. Took them a little over a week to get it to me. They only have enclosed carriers that are driven by husband and wife teams.
However, they had to drive my car on and off the truck a one time to drop off a car in IL. But I'm sure if you called them up and told them that they can't drive it at all it could be arranged and they would put your car on the first spot so it doesnt have to be moved if they have to drop off some cars along the way. If you dont need the car to be picked up right away you can go on stand by and save a couple hundred bucks. Good luck...

Awww. So you finally moving in?
The high end movers (those with the enclosed trailers) are the ones to normally trust. The guys with the open trailers tend to not give a **** about their cars. If anything, your best bet would be to look for an antique/exotic car mover to do it.
It WOULD make a nice drive, though. Especially if your little teddy bear goes with you

Hehehe...
Dude..I wouldn't trust taking it 3000 miles..can you imagine the paint chips you're gonna get from all of those dusty highways.
Fugg that! Pay da extra bucks!
Now if it was like 800 miles...that'd be a different story..sounds like a good excuse to loosen up the carbon...

I was going to drive my other car from MI to CA, but the AC died right after the shipping company took my FD. I called them up and had them take my other car, and I drove the FD 2400 miles from MI to CA. With the stock suspension it makes a pretty comfortable highway ride. With the rough ride and noise that it makes now, I would definitely ship it to keep my sanity.

for the life of me i do not remember the name of the florida company i was going to use. but it was family owned and run, and it was the cheapest i could find. i ended up using my dad though.
i'm sorry i dont have the name of that company, but fi you do a general net search and call around i am sure you will find the one i am talking about.

Shipping is better "if" you can find a quality company. The price of gas, hotel and speeding tickets will be more than the shipping costs and the does not even include any unforseen mishaps (overheating, flat tires, etc).
Driving your car should be limited to only getting the car loaded and unloaded with the exception of driving from the destination to your house because of wieght restrictions in residential areas for big rig trucks. That is the only acceptable exception and must be in writing! Closed trailers are more expensive.

1. Ask for a Certificate of Insurance indicating full coverage so you can be sure your vehicle will be insured while in transit.
2. Insist on a written shipping agreement and read it carefully. Ask questions if you are unsure of any item.
3. Check to see if the company owns trucks or is only a 'broker'.

built my own engine
i live in atlanta and i flew to tampa and drove the car back
these cars are 1hr cars (as in i cannot sit in them and drive comfortably for more than an hour)
suspension is killer
although i did drive it for 500miles, used 1/2quart of oil
i cannot imagine doing that 6 times in a row

Well.. the move is gonna happen in late Jan/Feb. My car is pretty much stock but if i do drive it I plan on upgrading the radiator. Before everyone tells me to change the ast I already took care of that and have a dp. The car has nnever overheated or left me stranded anywhere before. The route will pretty much be up Florida and then I10 all the way across. Ill probably end up driving but theres no harm in finding out the cost of shipping.

Shipping will be just a little over the cost of gas. When you add hotels and the amount you depreciate the car it will be about the same.
A friend of mine had a car shipped from CA to CT for $750.

I would drive it for sure, only problem I would have is the limited room, I am 6'1'' so an FD would probally get uncomfortable on a drive that long. However There arn't many women that are over 6' so I think you would be fine. it would be fun blasting through the desert, and the mountains.
