Downpipe bracket pics anyone?
Does anyone have pics of a downpipe bracket that they fabricated. The one I'm working on is starting to look like it was designed by Rube Goldberg. Thanks all.

I have made several to fit from the transmission to the down pipe .A two part clamp with one part of the clamp extending to the bracket on the trans . I use 3/16 thick steel or 1/4 thick . Sorry I do not have pics .This is not a complex design, simple and strong .Some say it is not needed but I will not do a down pipe install with out it. Paul did and had the turbo flange break clean off . Sorry no pics .

I believe you are ABSOLUTELY correct about the neccesity of the bracket. Are you using a gillotine type clamp on the pipe with one leg of the 'U' clamp going to the bracket?
The pipe I put in is Pettit's and you cannot use any part of the original bracket. In addition you cannot come straight down from the Tranny because the air pipe interferes. I think there something simple I can do but it' not comming to me.
Thanks Garco M....

I wanted this bracket too after installing my Pettit downpipe, but wasn't able to fabricate anything that would have done any good.
Cam at Pettit told me that there was no need for the bracket, but I'd feel a lot better if the downpipe had one.
I think it is asking too much of the turbo housing to handle the weight and inertia of the entire exhaust system when the engine and drive train move in the chassis.

I've fabricated two of them in stainless steel, made it big enough to go around the thermal wrap and everything. I'll roll up under the car and snap some pictures. I think I have a couple prototypes laying around I can show pictures of as well. Wasn't hard to make, used a vise and piece of pipe then had to transfer where the hole would be and then trim excess strap.

Mine are very thick compaired to the ones pictured above and the clamps are made in two parts and bolted together with four bolts, two on each side of the pipe .Sorry I do not have a camera .

The bracket is the stock one that is used from the factory. The bracket is the one you see in the picture. That's exactly what i have on my car. Jack

im wondering what the deal is. . . if i remember correctly, my clamp is basically just a stock "remake". . . nothing special about it. thats pretty lame that pettit would make a downpipe that wouldnt fit that clamp. . . it IS a good thing to have. i wish i had pictures of what the lack of a clamp did to my turbine housing.

It has been a while since I installed the Pettit downpipe, but I recall that neither the stock bracket nor the stock clamp would work.
The stock clamp wouldn't fit around the Pettit pipe because its diameter is larger than the stock precat. The stock bracket hit wouldn't fit either, becasue the downpipe is routed closer to the tranny than the precat, so that the bracket hit the downpipe.

Here are the pictures (best I could do without taking off the pipe.) Don't know if it will help but I used the stock tranny bracket and just mad a replacement band to go around the wrapped DP. I also had to use one hell of a long bolt to pull the band up tight as a short one would'nt accomplish pulling it together and securing it to the bracket. Hope this is of some use. Jack
