door and key chime bell

I just picked up a 92 FD RHD a few days ago and the door / key chime is driving me crazy and I would like to disable it. I found the connector under the dash right above the gas and brake connected to long black box. Does anyone know what color the wire is for the chime?

thanks

Tony

If you turn the key one click past the accessory position, the chime will turn off after a few rings.

Would like to disable mine too. I just got my broken key pulled out of the ignition and the chime will play without the key in it.

This weekend I will pull that box out of the car and track down how to make it stop. should be almost the same for US cars too. I was looking at the electric system pdf looks like page 95 has the answer.

My 92 FD used to chime all the time the door was open even without the key in the ignition. I took out the ignition switch and there is a white plastic box on the back with a spring and contacts in it. That is what I had to clean up and reassemble properly. Now it only chimes when it should.

In my -93 RHD there's a connector going to the ignition lock, if I remember correctly it has only 1 wire. After disconnecting it, no more beeb beeb.

Got the same problem too! And it killed my battery! Good info here, I will check my ignition switch and see if that fixes the problem!

There's a two wire connector that you have to remove from the ignition switch, pic below:

I disconnected the wire in as shown in the diagram above and the chime kept ringing. I ended up disconnecting the big clip on that long black box and it shut her up! It killed the door and key chime! Now are they other consequences in disconnecting that black box like I did?

Does the black box also contain the annoying beep for the air bag?

ehe, you've probably disabled the 'headlights still on when key is out' chime, also.
