Not to argue with your opinion, but I think the reason why a lot of people disagree with you is because the kit on my car is from a very well respect tuner in Japan, he designed this kit for high speed runs.

Also I did my best not to rice out the car, I may have the CF parts unpainted only because I have not decided on what color to paint the car.

You have the remember the meaning of RICE

RICE = Placement of unnecessary and non-functional items

Hood....Function...To vent out hot air

AD Facer 9 Front bumper....Bigger holes for Oil coolers, Radiator and IC...

CF sides on the front bumper...More downforce for cornering

Bigger vent on sides of Fenders...To release the air coming from Oil coolers...

Side Skirts.... To smoothen out the airflow from the front of the vehicle

Rear Diffuser...To smoothen out air flow and additional downforce

Rear Wing.....More Downforce for cornering and stability at high sppeds

Mirrors...To not have to look to the side to check for cars...


So from what I pointed I don't see what is RICE about the car...

I dont have 100 T.V's or a video console and all that other stuff...

The car is heading down the path to become an all out Track Car, I am just holding on the the interior for now since I am still in Alaska, once I move back to Cali it will get Stripped...lol..


I value your comment and this is just an explanation on what people may be thinking.

I love my car the way it is as I am the only one in the whole United States with this front bumper and that makes my car unique....

its the D-Max style hood. I got it for $200. the Cwest/ Panspeed D1 FD also runs the same hood. you can find it on ebay. just type in "FD3S hood". best cooling mod I ever did to my car.

If you race it all the time, I can buy it. However, i've seen real track cars and they don't look as 'clean' and get beat up. Yours looks more like a show car. I mean i'm not trying to pick on you but if and when you race if you dont have a seperate set of racing slicks because that should be the first mod then all that stuff is pointless. If you do and race it; my appologies.

no offense to kai or others but its only functional if its being functional...
perhaps the intent is there but for most with kits.. they were installed for aesthetics..
and most wont even realize the extent to which these mods will provide for em..
anyone can argue a great deal number of points... but it all comes down to everything being subjective..

kai your car is so nice, i wouldnt go back to stock if i were you. as for me i dont miss my stock body at all. i like how my car looks, plus the wing feels really nice around the track.

I think Kai's car is beautiful.

Personally I have done very little mileage with my bodykit but if I could go back and do it again it would be fully 99spec as I think for a streetdriven car it is the ideal.

One thing I am happy is that I am wingless, wouldn't want a wing.

The reason why it is very clean is due to the fact that there are no race tracks here in Alaska and that it the main reason why I can't wait to move back to Cali, once I get back to Cali this will only be driven at the track so much more often.

The hood will be going soon since I am in the process of customizing my stock hood to work a lot better.

Anyway's I did not take your opinion offensive in any way...it's all good..

Not to get too off topic (heh), but my engine bay temps stay pretty damn reasonable......all exhaust and intake components ceramic coated, a turbine heat blanket, 4 inch full exhaust. and a stock hood

Joking aside.. I know where you are coming from... I'm not a hardcore track person and I would hate to track my MB FD. And I would hate to track my Blk FD after its built. But as I always said, I was building a show car that I could drive on the weekend and occasional track day (maybe).

the thing is this is just a hobby for me.. I'm not here to prove to others that I'm the best driver or yep about how much HP or how fast I could go down 1/4 mile or which car I beat on the street.. Sure, its all fun and games but I mess around with these cars because its fun and learned quite a bit.. But ultimately, I love this car because it gives me choices to mix and match to please my taste. So that being said, who give a **** what others think of it.. as long as you like it But it is nice to know others respect the hard work you put in.. Which I respect that out your car Kai!! And it looks stunning!

The best sports car to ever come out of Japan was the NSX or mkiv, i know this is an rx7 forum but having driven both cars i would trade my fd in a heartbeat for either of those cars. NSX will snap more heads then any other Japanese car. I am not trying to start an argument or calling you out its mostly other members on here but to many people think just because they own a fd that it exceeds all others.

On the topic, I think the RX7 was an amazing platform for people to take it, and create some kind of reflection of themselves. Japanese parts and cars like the Rx7 lend themselves to modification in basically an unparalleled fashion (one exception is things like the scion). I think that Kai did an unbelievable job at creating a clean functional FD. His car is one of my favorites. I think as far as pure modification goes, I have "bastardized" my car more than most. I have turned a couple purist to the dark side, but most still feel the stock FD looks better. Funny thing is, I sometimes do remember and miss the stock car, and the things I miss the most are how much more street-able and beat-able it was. I still drive the car plenty...when its not in the shop for a million sorting out type of issues. I miss simply driving, parking, not worrying (except about my engine), and thats it. Vented hoods lead to problems in the rain. Carbon and paint leads to issues with rock chips. Racing seats are just not as comfortable. 20Bs lead to a zillion other problems. I love the journey, but I think the purist have something with just having a nice sports car to drive around in whenever they feel like it.

of course there will always be the F&F fanboys who think anything with a body kit is teh ricerizm, but your car is very unique and very tasteful, the furthest thing from rice IMHO.

Coming from the perspective of someone WITH a stock bodied R1 I can't wait to get my GTC bumper on and a nice set of flushmounts. Mine will see primarily track duty as well but even if it didn't I LOVE the way the GTC front end looks and would probably go with it regardless.



*amp, just because it doesn't see track duty 100% of the time doesn't mean the mods aren't worthwhile. A good friend once pointed out that even when he's driving his modified car on the street it's much easier to manuever and avoid dangerous situations than when it was stock. So while (at the moment) his mods aren't doing any "good" on a track, who's to say they are not functioning period?

It's not only about FD.
When I bought my first 4th gen prelude i wanted to put bodykits on it but later stock look grew on me and i discovered how great it actualy looked stock, lowered with good wheels and how ugly all those bodykits were.

Same story with FD. First i started looking at all the bodykits and liked them but later found out that stock 99spec bumper, rear spoiler, OEM sideskirts and good wheels are the best choice.

I like both the stock FD's and kitted ones.... but only with certain kits. Out of the hundreds of fantastic FD's on this site there's only two that really stick in my mind and that's yours Kai and Scrubs FD (not that im biased having a silver vertex kitted FD myself).

Kai, your FD is gorgeous, I like the way you've stuck with one maker (RE-A) for the whole kit and not a miss match of several different kit makers. I certainly wouldnt want to put it anywhere near a track after you've got it looking so nice.

Maybe to solve a problem, when you move back to cali buy a stock white FD for the track and keep your RE-A one safe!

I hope everyone brings their FD to the track for a HPDE at least once every 1-2 years (I HPDE at least 2-3 times per year), it's just brings out the true essence of these cars (e.g., what's the point of having a "hot" girl, if you're only showing/looking).

FWIW, the stock body (and driver) is good enough to keep up with a 911 GT3 RS around the corners at Roebling Road, and 150 MPH down the front straight (no wing, stock engine 4x850cc injectors), so unless you are already a very good or experienced driver, I'd spend the money on seat-time rather than kits.

No cooling issues either with a Fluidyne and stock dual oil-coolers.

The stock body has such a smooth organic flow to her, that I'm struggling with wanting a '99 Spec rear wing and front spoiler, since she's not a dedicated track car.

Maybe I'll have to have two rear hatches: one with the '99 wing and "hang" the stock rear hatch in the garage . . .

I'm Definitely in agreement about the Porsche Statement, A GT3 Looks Fast standing still a 996 just looks like a Porsche, either one is a cool, car what bothers me is all the over the top stickers and crap people put on their cars.

For me It's Clean '99 spec, with a couple of RE-esque Toys and Feed Side Skirts...

It's funny how almost everybody missed the whole point of this thread, it is not about me wanting to go back to the stock body....I will never put this back to stock...I probably will buy another...

Anyway the point of this thread is to find out how many people out there that put a bodykit on their car and miss it the way it was before the bodykit....lol....
