Differences between S7 and S8 13B-REW's??

I'm looking at buying a new motor for my car, i have these 2 options available to me at a very similar price. the only upside to the series 7 motor is that i'd be purchasing it straight from mazda.

The manual S7 short block part number is N3F1-02-200.

The manual S8 short block part number is N3G1-02-200.

If anyone knows any differences. that would be fantastic. Is the series 8 block better?

Thanks,
Aleks

for the 99 fd's mazda changed the metering oil nozzles in the rotor housings. in the US market, all the rotor housings were updated to the new spec in 99.

at some point they changed the front cover gasket to metal, and the front dowel land got thicker.

other than that the FD engine block had no changes from 1991 to 2003.

The G1 is actually the 280PS motor whereas the F1 was used on lower power S7's and 8'.

I dont know all the differeneces but can add this much.

Stationary Gears F & R N3G1-10-E0Y & -E1Y
E-Shaft N3G1-11-D00A
Oil Pan N3G1-10-400

plus the long block stuff, upgraded turbos, ECU, IC, Radiator, Oil Cooler connectors, etc.

By the way the F1 had updated housings and apex seals & side seals from prior engines.

just to clarify, new engines are block, oil pan, flywheel, and maybe the water pump

i'm not sure what part number you get in the US, but they are available about $4800 retail.

I understand the filler neck on the waterpump housing was slightly different on the JDM S8 blocks. Apparently the neck portion that takes the cap and is bolted on in our S6 models is cast as one piece....not bolted on with an 'O' ring. This is (apparently) only an issue if you wanted to delete the AST.

Same PN in US The manual S8 short block part number is N3G1-02-200

Mazdaspeed Development lists it remanufactured at $4200 but they are backordered which can mean never available.
