Deciphering a JDM RH Drive FD VIN
Hi guys, this is my first post in the forums, long time reader/googler
Anyways, my Dad imports FD's to Australia from Japan, and in the latest shipment, there was an oddball automatic transmission car, which was unexpected. Nobody wanted the car, but rather than strip it for parts, I took it as a daily driver. It seemed too good to strip, as it was a 1 owner brilliant black 84,000km car with Tein coilovers and Abflug GTM spoiler kit and Super Advan 18" wheels and momo interior bits.
So far, I've used it as a daily driver for a month, but I dont know anything about the car. Its an automatic, has the fabric/cloth seats (not alcantara like the rest of our cars) and has no sunroof. The Japanese firewall stamped VIN is FD3S-113372.
I dont know how to decode this, and all the web based decoders are in Russian and I cant translate the damn things.
The other problem is that the white sticker in the door jamb with the "options" listings (R1, R2, Type S, Type X, RZ, etc) seems to have been peeled off, and so I dont know if this car is a Type X or what. I dont even know production year. Any help on the details of this car would be appreciated. I sort of think its a 1991 to 1993 car, maybe base model automatic version. Cant be sure though.

I found this on JDM types:
Type S: 3,600,000 yen retail 1993. PS, PW, AC, ABS, LSD, Bucket Seats, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Cassette. 4AT/5MT.
Type R: 3,850,000 yen retail 1993. PS, PW, AC, ABS, LSD, Bucket Seats, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Cassette. 5MT only. + Fog Lamps, Rear & Front Spoilers.
Type RZ (RII US): 4,005,000 yen retail 1993. PS, PW, AC, ABS, LSD, Bucket Seats, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Cassette. 5MT only. Fog Lamps, Rear & Front Spoilers. This is the 2 seater version, lighter than the Type S by 30kg. Up to Sept '93 it came with P-ZERO tires & RECARO seats. From Oct '93 the package changed to include Bilstein Dampers, Bridgestone S-07 tires, BBS Mags, and RECARO seats.
Type X: 4,340,000 yen retail 1993. PS, PW, AC, ABS, LSD, Bucket Seats, Alloy Wheels, AM/FM, Cassette. 4AT/5MT . Fog Lamps, No spoilers + Driver's Air Bag, Sun Roof, Leather Seats, Auto AC, CD, BOSE Sound System and Cruise Control.
So it appears to be a Type-S due to no Sunroof. Long live the Automatic! makes a great DD

Colour code : PZ
Code of upholstery: FE2
Number in the catalogue: AJFA03
Code of a model: F101-110
Date of manufacture September 5th, 1992.
That's all you can tell from the serial number. The other options are recorded on a white sticker on the driver's side door jam. The Japanese serial numbers are a little different from the VIN number and don't record every option. If I had access to better software I could probably tell you more but this is just an online database.

Thanks very much guys. So it appears what I've got here is a late 1992 Type S automatic. That seems to line up with everything I know about the car. Its a pity someone peeled the options sticker off the doorjamb, but now I know what it is. Thanks very much for your help
The automatic actually makes for a nice daily driver, and we dont have many FD's in this part of Australia, so its something different to see in traffic. That, and its freakishly good on fuel consumption, being a stock engine. Only gripe is the rear hatch hinges rattle over bumps, and the RH side headlight cover decided to part company with the rest of the car at 110kmh in a rainstorm last week...
