Deal or not.

Looking for a new car , never had a rotary before, i found this on ebay

This car is located around where i live, he selling for 6k. The problem is he saids the secondary fuel injector bad and needs to be replaced, white smoke comes out, and is afraid of the engine denotating but it runs. How much is this fix? Finally, do you guys think this is a lemon or a steal? Thanks

read more about the FD before you jump into it.. these car's are VERY high maintence, as well as not being know for their reliabilty. If your good to it its good to you x10.

White smoke isn't from an injector, I'd assume the worst and plan on putting a motor in it. Also sounds like it needs some paint work.

If it was just the injector and you were doing it yourself and doing routine maintence while your in there figure $500 or so. If you were doing it on the cheap I'd guess $100 (not recommended).

It is an OK deal, some people pay $4K for totalled cars.

since he says white smoke is coming out, there is a high probablility that the coolant seals are failing and the engine needs a rebuild, especially since it has a lot of miles on it, which will cost u $$$, if u have the time and money to put in a new engine then go for it, otherwise it'll break down on u pretty quickly and u'll regret it.

Cars don't smoke for the just the heck of it. If it was a simple "injector problem", he would be selling it for more than $6k. You may as well assume the engine needs a rebuild and possibly the turbos as well.

Fixing all the other little odds and ends without a paint job (if the engine really does need a rebuild) can run you a lot of money. If you want a project car, go ahead. If you are looking for something that you can drive right away, save up some more money for a decent one.

It might be nothing. A little white smoke at startup isn't abnormal, its just some oil. If it is smoking all the time, then that is something else.

Check out the car, take it to a Mazda dealership, and get a compression test done.

If that car is working, it is a steal.

Where in Houston is it? Another option is to take it to MazMax, and get it diagnosed there. Bryan Smith knows his RX-7s. They will hit you with a diagnosis charge (175), but that is a cheap price to pay for a little insurance on the purchase.

And another 5K once you start spending too much time on this forum.

If all you have is 6-8K then walk away from this car.
