Custom Retrofit Sleepy Eyes Part 2 56K no way

A few of you might remember a project that I've been working on for over a year now with my headlights. I posted pics of my custom headlights in this thread;

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ght=custom+HID

The was never quite happy with them because I didn't have a shroud that would make the headlights look flush and to not have any aerodynamic issues. I've been working on headlight shrouds for a few months on and off, and it has been the most frustrating projects I have ever done, since I've never done something like this before. I probably have over 200 hrs in labor on these shrouds alone.

I first had to make the shape of my headlight shroud, then a female mold, then finally a male mold. My first one, which I have done now is made of fiberglass, and since I vowed a long time ago that I would never use fiberglass on my future cars, I still plan on using the mold to make a CF part. I have some raw CF, but I will do it in due time. I still need to work on the bracketing a bit and to hook up the High beams, but I doubt I'd ever use them.

I also increased the HID bulb rating to 8000K from 4300K because I wasn't happy with the 4300K color either. Now it is much more blue/purplish which is a bit ricey, but I love it. I also used LED's that Rich (GoodfellaFD3S) recommended from Velocity LED, and they match the headlights pretty well.

Here are a lot of pictures for your enjoyment. Comments welcome

I've probably spent about 1000$ + hundreds of hours of labor haha. I was learning on the way though and I'm not terribly efficient with my time.

+2 That looks really good. I've wanted to do something exactly like this. Question - how do you get the lights to pop up to the correct height? Pivot controller? Do the lights pop up to the correct level by using the standard light switch on the stalk?

i guess with the amount of time and money you spent on this project, the last thing you want to hear is that you wouldve been better off with the knightsports kit from FDNewbie

Yea, I knew about the KS headlights for a while. If I didn't make my own, I would have went with those. For my personal taste, the KS reflector lenses look a bit too big and I'd like HIDs with projectors that give a clean cutoff.

The zymol wax you can buy at autozone for 15 dollars a bottle. It's good, but not exotic.

David Hayes,

As it is right now, it's really hard to adjust each the headlights up or down. I plan on making a bracket to mount the lights more solidly and put in an adjustable screw. I modified the headlight motor to pop up half way or so and it goes up and down using the stock handle switch.

Okay, thanks. I know others are trying the Pivot controller, but I haven't gotten a definitive answer on if the Pivot can be installed so you only have to use the stock handle switch and not mess with the Pivot.

Very good work man. You should be proud for taking on a custom project like this. I have does a few myself and I know the amount of time that goes in to just researching it alone not to mention all the work.

Any tips for would-be fiberglass fabbers? My attempts have sucked.
