Custom front mount bumper
Here's what I was working on today. I am working on my GT35R single turbo setup up and running. Along with the turbo, I went with a Greddy 2 row FMIC. After bolting it up and fitting the front bumper I noticed that there isn't much room for air to get in to the FMIC. I decided to make a larger opening. Originally I wanted to go with all '99 spec parts. We'll see how this turns out before I commit to the '99 spec stuff.

Very interesting. I've been waiting for someone to do this for a while. I want to do the same with mine, but I only to open it up only a couple of inches, to let more air flow for the 3 row.

is it effective??? yes. . . nice???. . . somewhat. . . i dont think its necessarily marketable. . . i think its good for drag racing and thats about it. other than that. . . i would like to see the painted bumper first.

Honestly, I don't even think it would be fair for me to comment on th form of this. This is obviously 100% about function, so with that in mind, I say good job. Add a screen as other people have said.
This reminds me of an Eclipse that was in the USC Challenge a few years ago.

Thanks for the input so far. I'm not sure if I'm going to like it either. It just seems like such a waste to have big front mount and no way for air to get through it. I can't believe how small the stock opening is.
I wonder if this will help get more air to the radiator too.
I'll post up some more pics after I get it painted.
By the way. Does anyone have any pics of a front mount with this screen people are talking about?

looks very functional. I bet if Chuck @ RE was copying this people would LOVE it!! Gotta love the clicky nature of the forum.
Get it painted and repost pics. If you duct the bottom and side of the IC to the Rad you will dramaticaly DROP water temps. I dropped them by 20 degrees across the board when i put a 2 row on a customers car and fabbed a duct.
Nice work.

Bigisland what would you recommend using for the ducting between the IC and rad. I've been wanting to do this but can't think of a good material to use.
This is the best I could do with the picture...I know it sucks but its the only one I had on my computer. In person you don't see the mesh much from more than a couple of feet away. I think I'd recommend getting a different aftermarket bumper than the 99 because obiously you are looking for a large opening. I don't think this is going to come out looking all to good even when its painted. I mean the 7 is a sexy looking car...you can't ruin that just for a little bit of functionality, unless you're an all out race car guy.

Pm me your email and i will see if i can find a good shot of it off the car and on.
I also made a top plate to seal the gap of the bumper to radiator.
The owner has since turned the car into a rolling POS of mismatched spray paint and lens tint spray. he backed into a rock wall in his driveway that had only been in that place for the last 15 years kinda hard to forget about I would think. Soo that being the case the car has not been in for the "final edition" of the scoop. Buut, it works and looks OK. I was going to make it cleaner, espeacially the top cover. But since he is hell bent on destroying the car i don't feel that motivated to do it. espeacially since he NEVER paid me for the first edition...Why am i moving again?haha!!
let me know and i will get some shots to you.
