Couple quick questions for the rotorheads!!

First, I have been reading and reading through the FAQ's about removing emissions components. There 2 items that look like ISC's. One is under the UIM, and the other is on the side. I am running a Pettit Unlimited ecu. Which of these do I need to keep? I thought it was OK to remove the one under the UIM and had to keep the one on the side by the throttle body, not not sure!

Second, I stripped my harness and am rewrapping it. I am laying out the harness in its locations inorder to rewrap correctly. But when I try to use the wiring diagrams I downloaded off the forums, the colors dont match up!! For example, there is turbo control solenoids.....both have a common B/W wire, and the pcm side is a different color. One of these says L/G, which according to the manual is Blue/Green. There are NO Blue with green striped wires in my harness!! But if I remember, the manual is for a 1994, and mine is a 1993. Can anyone hook me up with the diagram to the wires going to all the solenoids and etc. on the pcm harness so I can get this thing back in order*****OR***** just tell me what the wires should be on the pcm side (to all solenoids), cause the B/W wires are all fine.

One final question. I plan on drag racing my car here and there. I have already removed the cables from under the hood leading to my battery cause I am relocating it. Does anyone know if its acceptable to mount it under the rear bins and would pass the tech inspection? Or do I need one of those aluminum battery boxes mounted in the hatch area? I wanna make sure they will let me race!!

Thanks for the help!!

Frank

The ISC is on the firewall side of the UIM. Keep that.

Color of the wires fade over time. My recommendation (I just unwrapped harness 2 months ago) is to un wrap it farther down. Hopefully you'll than see the true color.

Actually I have it unwrapped to the poit where it comes out from under the UIM and goes toward the ABS pump. But the problem is that the wires arent there! I actually contacted a friend at the local mazda dealer and he GAVE me the Factory shop manual and wiring diagrams for the RX7 1993 year so I am in good shape and will get started tomorrow night! T

I am still questioning whether or not I will get a check engine light from removing all the smog parts I did but well see I guess. Thanks

You will get a CEL for removing smog parts if you don't install a resistor instead.

The 93 and 94 wiring harnesses are identical, so use the wiring diagram you can download off the sticky thread. But you have that now. Like Herblenny said, the fading can make ID very difficult. If in doubt, use a continuity tester and test it all the way back to the ECU.

As for the TC vacuum and pressure solenoids, getting them mixed up won't matter a bit in function.

dgeesaman> I just looked at that and your right......I guess I am going to have to do it the hard way! I was hoping to get things in order soon, but I guess any FD project is gonna be time consuming. Is the 330 Ohm resistor what I need to put in the connectors of anything that is unplugged??

Black beauty> According to Mahjik, that isnt the ISC. It would be the one located down and to the right of the one you circled. I am blocking the one you circled as well and keeping the ISC. Hope everything works ok!!

The picture identifies it already. It's the AWS, used to preheat the precat. This is what kicks your idle to 3K on a cold start-up.

seriously, you ought to hand out high res versions of that thing tonight, and wait 'til tomorrow for some really *thoughtful* input

On a non-California car, you will NOT get a CEL from removing the smog parts. You do NOT have to use resistors either, although you can if it makes you feel better.

Also, you are correct about the ISC. It is the one located down & right of the one circled. Technically, you do not have to keep that either. You will have to adjust your target idle manually if you remove it.

Guys, I dont remeber where I got that avatar, but if it were my woman......I prolly would sell the 7 and work on those all day!! I too have a hard time concentrating!

Back to the topic, I dont believe I have a cali car......I know there is a plug hanging...blue one that according to the wiring diagram is a cali only egr sensor or something.....wasnt being used on my car! I left enough room where I can splice in resistors if needed after the repair. At this point< I just want it back together so I can drive, but I dont wanna hack it up.

Yes, the Emissions solenoids don't trigger the CEL, but they do log the code in the ECU. It makes it a pain if you really do have a problem to read all those codes each time.

Dont' worry about the blue connector. That connector goes to EGR, which is only on 93 Cali and 94s.
