Cost of Mazda Reman
Just out of curiosity, how much does the average Mazda Reman cost in your area for the 13b REW? I was at Mazda City here in town (they had at least 3 FD's there, one was the cheif Mechanics'), and bought a front left fender panel for only $190, and was talking to the guy behind the counter was a real enthusiast, and quoted me a price with labor:
Mazda Reman: $1200 (core exchange)
Incidentals such as belts, fluids, gaskets, ect: $500
Labor: $700
So basically $2400 for a Mazda reman with labor? We chatted for almost 2 hours about FD's and C's. He even reccomended silicone lines (one that Tom Busch Mazda said was an obsurd idea) and would install them if i brang my own in at no extra cost! He was very helpful, and said as long as i have no performance parts on the car hp-wise, the warranty on the motor is still good. He also said that he gets cars from around the area that go there for remans, instead of dealers in their town. He even offered to help me install any aftermarket part (bc i mentioned the 99 front end, GReddy front mount, which he pointed out needed trimming of the rebar before i did) off the clock if i ever got any. Is this too good to be true, or is this a real number? Bc most people on the forums say keep at least 5k more a reman with labor, or 4k for a new motor, etc. Does it sound fishy, or am i genuinely getting a hot deal? I know u get what you pay for, but this is from a Mazda Dealership, with 3 mechanics who basically know a good sum about rotaries. Do you guys think this is too good to be true? or is it the average price?

I just talked to a guy tonight about buying his 93 R1 with a new reman engine. he paid ~$1200 for the engine and ~$500 for gaskets/ misc and dropped the engine in himself, so I think that it's possible.

Ya RedR1 its really that much, the labor though, you are getting a deal on. Seems like whenever my motor gets sick, i need to give them a call. Other than that everything on my car works, and performs up to spec. 95,000 original miles.. 1 motor... still pulls perfect vacuum... i'm one lucky SOB. *knocks on wood*

Wow Pete, you've got more miles than i thought yer car had. Hmmm. . .then i think i'll go with the Mazda Reman for now. I know people have horror stories about dealing with Mazda for motors, but someone has to take the leap for the rest to know

Something is not right. My brother works for Mazda and his Boss said the engine is $2000 his price plust $1000 for core if you don't have a motor. KDR has a group buy with Malloy Mazda for $1950.
If they can get a Mazda Reman for $1200, then get me a phone number and see if they will ship the motor. I need one and this would be the best, cheapest price I have seen yet.
The only thing I can figure is they are getting them direct from MANA or they are reman from someone working there, but not really covered under Mazda Warranty.
Let me know what you find out and email me at mccreary@cove.net

got my reman for $1950 @malloy mazda in woodbridge VA. they stock them and 2 year unlimited mile warranty. it comes in a nice crate and is repainted and clean as a whistle looks so pretty in the crate and took a weekend to swap out the motor and replace every single vacuum line on the car and even use all the torque spec for every nut and bolt. get this when the job was done I did not have one extra bolt or nut lying around....
also comes with a new water pump,180 degree thermostat.

i'll get there number when i go back on friday to pick up my 1/4 panel, and will post it in this thread. Im not sure if it makes any difference, but the place is no more than 4 miles from the Mazda Reman plant in Jacksonville. Im not sure if that has any direct corolation, but thats the price he quoted me with a core exchange.

Brads, i can almost garuntee you that you got the motor from Tom Bush Mazda in Regency if it ran that much. they will do anything they can to bend you over backwards and shove an E-shaft as far as it will go. they quoted me like 6 grand for motor and labor, so i basically told him i could get a motor ported to hell, installed, and a few extra parts for that much.
With Mazda City, that was the price the guy quoted me, but liek i said, im going to take the car in there prob the end of June/beginning of July. once i get the car out, i'll post the number to them, and my impression. I basically told them, if everything goes great, they can expect much business from fellow rotorheads we'll see how it goes.
And pete, if you have a core (dont think it matters what condition) its $1200, but without a core i think their about $1900. Personally, if i wasnt so strung out on cash, id keep my current motor with a 4 on compression, and learn how to tear down the motor and replace seals, gaskets, ect.

and just a quick note, im not sure how much NGK spark plugs are from other dealers, but i got 4 plugs (7's and 9's) for only 40 bucks and some change. I thought that was a great deal, being i bought them from the dealer.

Brad, BucRX, im going to drop by Mazda City tomorrow morning, 5/8, to pick up the fender. when i get back, i'll post his name, and the phone number.
Remember as i stated above, the 1200 is with core exchange, i think the motor itself is 1800 or so. I'll post more info, and keep everyone updated with answers by sunday at the latest.

reman motor
redr1- If the motor is indeed a Mazda factory remanufactured engine, that is an excellent price. I had one installed at Roberts Mazda in Hickory, NC and it was over $4K installed. The genuine factory motor should have a 12 month 12,000 mile warrantee and should come with a new flywheel already attached.

****update**** sorta
I was at Mazda City today, and picked up my fender. I guess the regional director of sales was there, and he was talking the the sales rep as to why i only paid $180 for my front left fender. . . .So i didnt wanna bring anything up, so i just asked how much a new Mazda Reman costed, and my buddy emphasized the list price was $2200. I know the price is lower, and by the way he said "The list price" insinuated he wanted me to go back a few days after.
Im gunna roll by there on thursday to see whats actually up. I guess since the head honcho was there, he didnt want me to get him into anymore ****. But i'll check back there with him.
