Conflicting Hose sizes for Silcon Job
I was about to order some SVH from hose techniques when I saw their kit contains:
- 40 feet of 3.5mm (all small solenoids).
- 15 feet of 4.0mm (Windshield washers and boost controllers).
- 16 feet of 6.0mm (larger air lines on engine).
- 4 feet of 8.0mm (larger air lines on engine).
On Robinette's site it recommends 35 feet of 4mm and 10 feet of 6mm. Some other's recommended using 3.5mm instead of 4mm so they're more secure. Is the hose techniques kit just include way too much (no I don't want to do my hood prop or anything like that.) or is it just me?

www.hosetechniques.com
35 feet of 3.5 mm
15 feet of 6 mm
I even has some left over. Hose Techniques recommends the 3.5 because its the same thickness as the 4mm. Its a nice snug fit...No worries

I did some of mine a while back and just bought it by the foot (3.5 from Hose Tech). The 3.5 fits real good for the vaccum lines but there were a couple I needed 4.0 for.

The kit comes with a LOT of extra hose (almost enough for two cars). The 4mm hose is thin-walled and is not what you want to use for a vaccum line. Everybody says not to buy the kit, but I bought it and was quite happy with it. I think it is nice to have some extra hose. Especially if you need to do any trouble shooting. Whatever you do definitely get the HT hose even if you do not buy the kit. Also be sure to check out Dave Disney's site on doing the replacement...

I bought the kit, I used the extra to cover the throttle cables, hood prop, and some of the various electrical wires. Used their hose slitter to put a slit in the hose so it could be pressed over. Thought it might look ricey, but it doesn't, I'm happy. I actually ended up with a lot because I ended up going nonseq instead. The 4mm isn't good for anything except the windshield wipers (or slitting and covering wires) because it's very thin walled. The 8mm is bigger than any of the lines we have, used that for my throttle cable and hood prop.
So if you're just doing the vac lines, Rotary93 is right, 35 feet of 3.5, 15 feet of 6.
