Clutch question (450 -500 rwhp street)
I am in the middle of a rebuild and single conversion. I will be running a GT40 non-bb, 850 primary/1680 secondary and so on and so forth. I am looking to make between 450 and 500 rwhp on moderate boost and pump gas (maybe meth injection too). I want a clutch with a sprung hub for comfort and streetability, something that will hold the power and torque. Let me know if anyone has and suggestions.

yeah, i looked into the HKS twin and the Exedy twin and they are just too damn expensive. I won't mind a little rougher engagement but i don't want a solid hub. I was looking at the Spec stage 3 which has the 4 puck sprung hub and race pressure plate. Gotham said it held 520 lb.ft of torque and its under $500. That seemed pretty good to me.

From what i hear pressure plates are rated for torque. The ACT pressure plate is good up to 400 ft/lbs of torque from what i was told. I guess ill find out how well it holds up with my single setup.

i always wondered why the 6 pucks are cheaper than the xt00 kit... why? is it just the fact that they wear much quicker? im pretty much in the same delma as EZFD. i might be leaning toward the ZX3-HDR6. i was thinking of the ZX3-XT00 and if the disk burned out just put another one in. the xt00 is just a very good street setup. anyone want to give me a little advice... shoudl i even think about the racing beat 6 puck? i've also heard good things about that clutch! bump

haha... so if your the president how come your not sure if the "ss" version is out? and by ss are you talking the street/strip or a whole new design for a pressure plate and clutch disk?
the difference in the HDR6 and the HDG6 is the R6 has the sprung hub. you lose on 63 ft/lbs holding capacity but your clutch leg wont be going to the gym. lets get some more feedback guys im going to do some more research on the racing beat 6 puck but im would like someone to say something to make me think here. I would avoid act altogether. I have had 3 acts in 3 different cars and they all sucked. Got one act in a talon thats going to get swapped out too. I run a spec stage 2+ in my 420hp fd and love it. Has survived many street and strip launches. Nice engagement, and pedal effort slightly more than stock.

yes but if you really knew... every car has its own king of clutches. act seems to be great for these cars. did you have an act in your fd? if so which one and if you did a hybrid by switching plates or disks please note this aswell. thanks for the information. any info is good info in my mind

Yes, i did have one in my fd. It was a street/stip set from the rx7 store. Disc and plate came as a set. Started slipping on the stock twins at 14psi after about 4000 miles. Flywheel was a new 17lbs racing beat piece, and no oil was leaking onto the clutch or flywheel. Just couldn't hold the power apparently.
The clutch in the talon is the 2600 set with the act flywheel. You have to bury the pedal in the carpet to be able to shift. Went through all the culprits. New clutch fork, pivot ball, slave, master, s/s line from the trans to the frame. Has been pressure bleed, and conventional bleed. The pivot ball was spaced with 2 washers under it. The cluch pedal assemble was replaced, because they have a cross rod that allowed slop between the rod and master cyclinder during engagement. Still have to bury the pedal for full disengagement. Going to switch it to a spec clutch as well.

When I was fulltime at Gotham, just about every FD that came through the door that needed a clutch had an ACT installed, I probably sold around 30-40. Not one complaint, everyone loved them. From personal experience, I put over 50,000 *hard* miles on my ACT HD-00 (stock disc, heavy duty pp) to include over 100 passes at the strip, spirited street driving, 170 mph highway speeds, and 5 road race events.

^^^^ im with what your saying... i have never heard of anyone disliking the act setups at all. this is news to me. so Rich your using the hd00 currently? why did you pick that over the xt00? thanks for the input as usual guys.

well it looks like next week i'll be going with the HDR6 clutch kit. unless i hear other info it sounds like a very sound clutch. anyone have a breakdown of the spec clutch kits pricing in stages they would like to post. i would love to look all night but i have dialup still cause time warner likes to punish me by not wanting to run another 300ft to my damn house
