clutch/flywheel help?

so lately my flywheel is getting a bit louder, it never really had any chatter before and lately its been getting louder and louder.

my buddy says its the throwout bearing. which i'm not sure if it is or not but it sounds like it.

i dont know if i should just replace the throwout bearing. or since i'd still be doing the hassle of dropping the transmission if i should just replace the clutch and flywheel while i'm at it.

the clutch/flywheel is only 2+ years old so i'd hate to spend 400$ buying a new kit if it still functions properly and its just the bearing.

what do you guys think? i'm dreading this procedure period. looks like it might be a 20+ hour job..

lucky i have a garage bay/lift/tranny stand available should make it a bit easier

if you are gonna go through all that work then trust me dude invest in a new clutch kit.

How do you figure this will take you 20+ hours if you've got a lift, stands, jacks, correct tools, etc??? The clutch release bearing is the only "tricky" part, otherwise it's a fairly straightforward job..

Get 2-3 friends who are mechanically inclined, bag and mark all bolts!!! (learned to do that one the "fun" way..), get the car up and go to town. I've done BMW and Skyline tranny/clutch swaps in no time before (getting the Skyline tranny back in is a BITCH when it comes to clearance).. I can't remember if I've done FD's or not (I had mine done at a shop, since EVERYTHING was getting done (turbo's, fuel, clutch, WBO2, tuning, etc.) at once and the engine was coming out anyway), but I don't think it should be *too* much different, just gotta figure out the trick for the clutch release..

If the clutch and flywheel aren't that old and look good when you do a visual inspection, I would just resurface the flywheel and buy a new clutch disk. Also I agree with fendamonky about 20+ hours being way too long, and bagging your bolts. I also learned that lesson the hard way. Don't worry if you can't figure out the clutch release, unbolting the pressure plate isn't hard or time consuming. I opted for that route, as I was scared of damaging my throw out bearing.
