I think I may have found out why this EXEDY setup is going for $268 on ebay. I just talked with the guy at AIMCO clutch, and he in somewhat broken english said that EXEDY is the company that makes the OEM clutches for Mazda. Make sense?

I noticed in picture that it says EXEDY on the box, and also Daiken.

Here's the link:

Anyways, I have my ACT S/S on order as well as the RB 9.5lb flywheel. Yippee, I'm a grand poorer.

Thanks for all the help and feedback.

David

"EXEDY Corporation, formerly Daikin Manufacturing Company, is the largest independent OEM clutch supplier to the Japanese automotive market. A Japan-based company, EXEDY supplies clutches to Ford Motor Company and General Motors in the U.S. In addition, EXEDY supplies clutches to all major Japanese auto manufacturers and is Japan's leading supplier of racing clutches.

Consistent with their tradition of quality, all EXEDY racing and performance clutches are designed, engineered and built as race clutches - not rebuilt from stock clutches. Unlike other performance clutch manufacturers, EXEDY clutches are not made of gray cast iron from rebuilt stock clutches. Instead, EXEDY pressure plates are newly constructed from ductile (nodular) iron for your increased safety in harsh performance environments. "

In my post I only stated the Street/Strip since that was the clutch being discussed in the original post. ACT only offers a stock organic clutch disc in the S/S (model #HD01), the only thing different is the pressure plate. For comparison purposes, the similarly priced Exedy gives several options for clutch discs (namely organic, and cerumetallic)

It's obvious that 4 and 6 puck clutches are not going to use stock discs. They are also not very streetable. I believe the original topic of discussion was regarding the street clutches...
