Which clutch to buy? ACT, EXEDY, what?

Which clutch to buy? ACT, EXEDY, what?
Hey everyone. I searched this, but couldn't find out much more than everyone seems to like the ACT clutches. For instance, the RX7 store has both the ACT S/S and the Exedy for about the same money, but no one seems to mention the Exedy. Is it crap or what? I also ask because it seems like there was a connection on ebay that sold the Exedy for about $270 or so.
Anyway, opinions on these two brands, or others are welcomed. Plan on doing the flywheel at the same time.

The ACT is the most popular out of those clutches. I have heard good things about the Exedy. I use the Spec Stage 4 on my car and like it. http://66.216.67.51/product.asp?0=206&1=241&3=756

go with the ACT!! I have an ACT Xtreme 6 puck and I love it! I don't know much about the Exedy, but apparently they are also great clutches, but I prefer ACT over it!

As for Exedy, they are a popular Japanese brand. (Signal Auto is one tuner shop that uses this clutch in their cars).
Other popular japanese brands are ORC (Ogura Racing Clutch), ATS (Active Traction Service), and OS Giken.
I have no problems purchasing an Exedy clutch. In fact, I was thinking about purchasing one of those shortly.

Thanks for the feedback. Any more is appreciated as well. Everyone seems to like the ACT, no doubt. I just saw a "buy it now" new EXEDY clutch for $270 on ebay from a clutch store and thought, "hey, what's wrong with this picture" when Jason sells em for about $200 more. If the EXEDY is good, which it seems to be, sounds like a good way to save about $200.

Here's yet another vote for the ACT. The street/strip setup came recommended by Mazcare. This makes the third ACT street/strip clutch I've had. First one was in my '95 Probe GT, second in my '89 Probe GT turbo, and now in the FD. ACT's are definately the best clutches out there.

yeah, the EXEDY is on EBAY again from a clutch company, and includes all bearings etc. for a "buy it now" price of $268.
Even Jason, who sells both, said he's heard good things about it.
Since there's so much good feedback on the ACT S/S and RB flywheel I guess I'll just suck it up and pay the extra $200 and not take a chance. Too scary.

I have recently installed the new PFS clutch/ aluminum flywheel kit which I highly recommend. It should easily hold 450lbs of tq(flywheel) and is perfectly streetable with a full face disc. Pedal effort is not increased by much and engagement occurs close to the floor. The flywheel does not degrade idle quality at all and makes first and second gear go by insanely fast. I have driven fds with the ACT and they engage nicely but the new PFS setup should hold more torque.

I have the ACT S/S in my FD and it is a top notch clutch, but in defense of the Exedy- they are also very very high quality clutches... im putting one in my FC and have driven an FD (twin plate) and an FC (hyper single) with one in...very high quality clutches by both manufacturers.
I think the main difference between ACT and Exedy, is that Exedy gives you a choice between what kind of clutch discs you can use.
ACT uses stock clutch discs for their S/S variants while Exedy offers several options in clutch discs-- I chose the Exedy over the ACT because of this. I will probably be switching the FD over to Exedy when/if the ACT burns out

well if u need a performance clutch that stands the test of time, stay away from full face disks. I always use the same disk now..its the Racing Beat 6 puck sprung street/race disk. this with the stock fd pressure plate is the best combo. the stock pressure plate works great and under hard driving wont kill the throw out bearing.

Last time I checked, I could get the ACT with several disc options. Let's see, the street setup disc which didn't look stock to me, a 4-puck disc, a 6-puck disc, etc.
