clunking in the rear..

ok i know i got some noise from my exhaust banging against something under the car but this puzzles me.. when i take off slow in a turn, like comeing out of a parking spot, the car will clunk, like transmission is out of wack (like jumping left to right), when i get above 10mph it goes away.. whats the deal. the previous owner had put in a new (used) transmission, and it should have solid mounts. i ordered a transmission mount and probably a diff mount and hope it solves it, any one else have any ideas? I looked under the car and see nothing loose or broke, but then again i bought it that way and am not sure whats missing anyways, lol....

I have one idea. Search for 'clunking' or check the FAQ thread or check the Archives for threads on clunking and fixes. That will help you narrow it down and those threads have been proven helpful.

Probably your diff mount bushings. It could also be a cracked PPF(Our transmissions do not have tranny mounts).

check the diff bushings . if theyre leaking then they need to be replaced. Judging by the description its the diff bushings . Same happened to my car. But many other situations of clunking can be the pillow ***** or the ppf .

well i got solid trans mount coming in so that should fix it if it is the trans PPF, the trans should have solid diff mounts from rx7.com
i'll check the pillow ***** and see.

check your rear wishbone bushes, shock bushes, launch bar bushes for cracks/big movement. do you get the noise on a hard launch?

do you have a rear diff brace, that your tailpipe could be tapping on? as mine is pretty close. you would know if your PPF had broke loud grinding noise when you brake/ shift gear and doesn't go away, speak from experience

sounds perfectly fine with a hard launch, no noise when coming to a stop. just fixed the exhaust clunk a few minuest ago but the slow take off in a turn clunk is still there. someone suggested that the kazz 1.5 LSD is the reason why, it just locked up when stop and is disenguaging when i take off, i also have a 6puck so it sound right to me, i cant take off perfectly like i do in my BMW

It is likely your differential and it probably has something to do with "taking off"

Or like somone mentioned, if you have an aftermarket KAAZ 1.5 way LSD, they will clunk at low speeds when turning. I can vouch for this because I had one on my 240sx

hey man I told you it was the KAAZ. Its done that since day 1 on low speed turns, thats just what it does. The car has solid rx7.com diff bushings in the car so its gonna be clunky. If you dont want the clunk anymore, buy a T2 diff. I also replaced the factory pillows with the APEXi N1 dampners. The end links and toe links are solid as well.

WTF ***SEARCH***

If the "clunk" happens only under braking then you should first try checking your trailing arms, upper strut mount or the brake caliper bolts.

Thanks for chming in matt.
Some of the people were freaking me out about the clunk so i just thought i asked and make sure and check over everyones suggestion.
Wow so i guess the whole drivetrain is really stiff, sold diff, sold end and toe links, trans brace, engine torque damper, sold engine mount, its not moving!
Thanks again guys...
