Clickin under hard acceleration
I have no clue what or where this clicking is comming from. Under full throttle usualy in the higher gears at about 4500rpm and up, a continuous clicking begins. When i ease off the gas the clicking stops. It sounds pretty damaging but the car doesnt hesistate or jitter. I have no clue..tough to explain
any suggestions?

prior to my tranny failure in my GSL-SE (1st gen) I would get loud, hard clicking noises from the tranny. It would increase and decrease with miles per hour. Shrotly there after the whole trannyu locked up. I only had fourth gear and all the others would lock the wheels (sucks finding that out at freeway speed). The whole tranny was shot (someone told me the input shaft failed??) and fourth gear (the one to one gear) was the only one working and not making noise.
Otherwise I have no idea. I am just throwing out suggestions and things that I have ran into in the past. More info would be helpful.

You know I didnt have a chance to look at the boost guage at that time. I was trying to figure out what was happening. The noise is only when the car is driving and not standing still and reving. It could be from the tranny but the click comes out in multiple gears not just one. seems to come from the front but it could be from under as well.
I guess i will have to endure the pain and hope things dont break down to see what the guage is doing.... my buddy was following me the other day and he said there is a large puff of black smoke that would come out when i would shift under hard accel...dont know if they are linked though
Under normal conditions it is fine even if I let it rev up but when i punch it it starts clickin...hjopefully all this diagnosis isnt going to do too much damage.
I'll investigate and let u know if some thing comes up
thanks for the replies

Do you have the differential brace installed? I know when i installed mine it made alot of noise under hard accel. It wouldn't do it until the second turbo kicked in. I got sick of it and took it off.

Is there a way you could check your fuel pressure ?
It could be you are running on a verge of engine replacement due to lean conditions caused by some component in the fuel system.
What is your boost gauge telling you? What are your mods and what is the boost level you usually run at ?

Sounds like detination. My buddies car sounded like that for a day before it went kaboom. If you are running lean check and replace your fuel filter.

I have this same problem. It sounds like if u take a screw driver and hit in against metal and it seems as thought it come from the drivers side of the engine bay. It also only happens during hard accel. Almost like motor is rockin to hard or something. I dont know thought it coud be the PPF or motor mounts but not sure.

If it's a slow clicking sound it's not detonation but if its more of a cracking metalic type sound almost like static then you better turn the boost down and check out your fuel.

I had a clicking noise for a couple of weeks, not just on hard acceleration, but all the time. It seemed to be coming from the drivers side. It got faster as the rpms went up. Detonation, or a bad seal ? Engine went KABOOM a couple weeks ago after a 10psi run to redline. Warranty covers anything but detonation. Is it possible the seal was going bad ?

I see in the forums that someone had a TII and carbon buildup, heard a light clicking noise and ... KABOOM. I am sure I had some carbon buildup also. I think everyone needs to be made aware that this little clicking noise can cost you a rebuild. I wasn't aware of it and I've read a lot of stuff on the 7.
