Cleaning up engine bay plastics and rubber...
I'm taking some time this weekend to detail and clean up my relatively stock engine bay. As for the plastic and rubber components; what would be the best product to use on them?
My thoughts were to remove what plastics I could (stock air dam, stock plastic plumbing, etc) and wash them very good with soap and water; rinse them off, dry and then apply interior or exterior plastic trim spray/protectant. I understand that this type of stuff is fine for interior plastics as well as exterior plastic parts, but is it safe to use on engine bay plastics?
Input, ideas?

I have used Griot's Vinyl and Rubber treatment on engine bay plastic and rubber components. It can make them look close to new.
Don't use ArmorAll unless you want your engine bay to look like the inside of a rental Dodge Neon.

I have used good interior shine/cleaner (not armorall) as well as tire shine on the plastic and rubber components for years on many cars and have never seen any ill effects.
Side note on ArmorAll: I cannot even believe this **** is still for sale. I have seen so many interiors trashed by this company's interior shine it is ridiculous. Personally I have ruined one dash from using it for only a year. That dash cracked and split in so many places... Every car I have seen that uses this stuff and sits out in the sun, has had the same ill fate....

Not cheap, but it very little is needed per use.

Chemical Guys Bare Bones Under Chassis dressing
http://www.chemicalguys.com/UNDERCAR..._p/tvd_104.htm
I use this stuff on all the cars i detail.
You can let it sit for a few minutes and wipe it down for that new plastic/matte finish, or let it sit indefinitely and you'll get a nice glossy finish. This stuff is not greasy, but with any dressing it will get slick so be careful spraying it on cement or tires... you dont want to step in it and slip and fall.
And it makes the fender wells look like new after a good cleaning.
And it repels water fairly well too.

CD-2 engine dressing will make everything under your hood look new and it lasts quite a while! I typically use a degreaser first to get everything clean. The CD-2 is easy also, just spray it on and drive!

I have eagle one tire gel and its AMAZING.
I put them on my tire walls and it looks normal when you apply it. I go inside for about 20 minutes, come back out and the tires are shining like diamonds lol Literally.
So now i use it on my 99 lip and misc engine bay parts. Not only does it smell good too but the shine really lasts.
Before i started doing this i was using wd-40 which most places actually use, that or silicone. It works but people prefer different things.
