chroming alternator

Hi guys, I would like to know if it is possible to chrome the alternator housing or the steal that surrounds it, however you call it. I will have to remove the alternator to do the hose job so I thought, while I am in there…
I don't think that polishing with be a good idea because It would be a pain in the a$$.

Is there any electrical problem in doing this?

Thanks a lot

I know for a fact that chroming the alternator won't affect the alternators use at all. It doesn't use the case to transfer any power, so its only a protective shell. I do think that you would be better off polishing it though. Not you personally, but just pay someone to do it. Its not that expensive.

I don't suggest you chrome it. Chrome attracts heat, and we got a LOT of it to give away. It's best if you either polish it, or get the housing Jet-hot coated.

oh ok

but isn't polishing done by rubbing something many times? There are so many cracks there, is there an other way to polish this?

Polishing will just make the cracks more visable.

I'd say coat it then!

Contact the e-mail below:

elec_tape@hotmail.com

His name is Anthony. He drives a black 3rd gen in the DFW area. He can polish anything ... for a good price and GREAT look. He does stuff for RP. Tell him Carson sent you. You won't be disappointed. There are issues with doing your alternator.... like disconnecting the internal wires (he'll clean the alternator too) and reconnecting w/o cold solder joints so your alternator will run correctly.

www.jet-hot.com

Here's what it would look like..

Jay, the overhaul procedure for the alternator says nothing about removing that shaft and the breakdown pictures all show that piece as one part - I think it stays.

Dammit - I should wake up before posting - I thought you wanted the shaft off, didn't notice the cover. Take a 200-watt or so soldering iron to the rear bearing on the shaft for about 4-5 minutes to heat up the cover and then supposedly you can whack it off.
