Chra stuck to turbine housing, any tips?

I'm in the process of tearing apart the stock turbos, one of the compressor outlets is coated in oil, the other is completely clean. Ive removed all of the chra to housing bolts, but the chra wont budge. Any hints for removing this bitch???

TIA!
Justin

hit the turbine housing with a hammer to knock it off the cartridge, but hit it evenly all around. dont hammer the compressor side, because the aluminum can crack/break

Also spray PB Blaster in the joint to loosen the bond up. Few good taps with a hammer and you're done.

Make sure to mark the relationship of the center cartridge to the turbine housing. I usually punch a mark that's directly in line with the center of the oil feed hole. Make re-assembly MUCH easier.

put the bolts back in and put a spacer between the bolts and the chra and undo the bolt against the spacer to push against it and force the housing out, do it evenly with three out of the six bolts.

PB blaster and or believe it or not brake fluid over night will destroy any binding elements. I also agree with putting the bolts and plates back on to make sure that it comes out evenly so you don't damage the turbine wheel. Goodluck!

looks like I'm gonna have to try using the nuts as you guys recommended. Tried the pb blaster and gave it a couple of good blows with the mallet, but no movement at all. I'll let you know if using the bolts does it.... maybe try the brake fluid too!!

Thanks again guys!

Using the bolts did the trick, put a spacer between the chra and the bolts, backed them out a little bit at a time, then gave the housing a tap with the mallet once i saw that it had moved, it finally came off. Thanks for all of the tips guys!

Can anyone elaborate on this? Seems easier than taps from a 5lb hammer, but doesn't make any sense to me. What is a spacer?

Basically something that can jam between the turbine housing and the chra, so when you loosen the bolt it’ll push against the chra.

It jams the oil/water outlets as you loosen the bolts?
Make sense, the other guy had it finished in less than 2 hours after that advice.

Yup, works just fine.

PB Blaster
3 Sockets (spacer?) set against the opposing side of the CHRA (compressor housing)
Backed the 10mm bolts out lightly against the sockets, along with accompanied light taps from a 5lb hammer on the hot side

I had all 6 bolts in place with the three retainers lightly holding the iron after I tapped it out. This will protect the turbine from damage.

Took less than 30 mins

Penetrating oil around the housing such as PB Blast or Freeze Off. Then lightly smack with a brass hammer as to not damage the housing. If you can hit the flange and make the housing spin it helps free it up.
