Someone posted some good pics for the transmission fluid change, but I'm to lazy to search for it. Use the search button at the top of the page. This should get you started.

Use NEO 75W90HD for your transmission:

http://www.neosyntheticoil.com/gear-oil-75w90hd/

Great product and a lot of info on this forum about it. Smoother shifts and less clunking. Make sure to use the "HD" not the "RHD" as the RHD can cause gunk to build up in your tranny as the oil contains sulphur in it.

I use the RHD product (2X the cost) in my diff but you can use the regular product in the diff as well. The RHD offers better protection properties but it has to be changed much more frequently so I'd probably say for the daily driver to use the HD in both. I've got the Carbenetic carbon diff in my car and it does better with the RHD oil.

Are you saying that from personal experience or is that what people told you to use because the carbonetic diff fluid is no longer available?

I'm saying that because Carbenetic engineers highly recommend I use the RHD product in the diff as their testing shows it prolongs the life of the diff over the normal HD product (and KAZZ and Redline are also "no no's" for the diff). It's the mix of the RHD and its affects on the carbon discs in the diff.

Carbenetic is one of my sponsors. I spent a ton of time on the phone with them about the carbon diff and what was best to use for oil. I'll go with the guys that developed the product and their recommendation. They state the carbon diff will experience premature wear and failure with the other oils. Their metal diff can take any of the oils just not the carbon one.

As an aside on the Carbenetic carbon diff, it is fantastic. No clunking or whining like the Kazz or the Cuzco and great performance. It is whisper quiet just like the oEM one and performed great for me at VIR.

Cool, I will probably make the switch to that.

Btw, I am very happy with my Carbonetic carbon diff as well. It is smooth and quiet.

^Glad to help. Was worried about going to a performance diff but the Carbenetic carbon diff took away the fears of clunky performance. I highly recommend the diff versus the Kaaz and Cusco ones. My tuner Steve Osley was very impressed saying it's the first one he's installed that was smooth and quiet.

Quick question for the guy's using Neo 75W90HD, can you still get this in the US?

After reading the reviews on here I thought I'd give Neo a try and found the distributor in the UK but he is saying that HD is discontinued and has been replaced by the RHD version.

Having said that I don't think I can afford to use it anyway, he's quoted me approximately $160 for one gallon of 75W90RHD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes it is available thru multiple sources. Here is one link for you:

http://www.upgrademotoring.com/performance/neo_oil.htm

The HD product is around $50 per gallon and the RHD is $80 or half of what your guy quoted. That is about what I paid. I bought some around 3 months ago and had to get it from two places as one has the RHD and another - Mazdatrix - had the HD.

Thanks David, I'll look into what it will take to get some over to me, I can't afford to buy from the distributor over here, I also forgot the price he quoted didn't include VAT (our sales tax), so that's another 20%!

Near enough $200 for a gallon of oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks David, I'll give CR a try, at least they are on the East coast and a little closer.

I used AMSOIL severe gear in both of mine and so far so good. It cost about $60 for 4 quarts, which barely made it.

I may well end up with Amsoil at this rate, I was an Amsoil dealer when I lived in the States and ran it exclusively in my old race car so I'm happy with the product, just didn't have an RX7 back then though.

However Amsoil don't use the same marketing over here, it's just available from a handfull of on-line retailers. Still works out a fair bit cheaper than the Neo price I've been quoted!

Does anyone seem to think the NEO synthetic 75w90HD gear oil is thin (watery). I bought a gallon from bakers precision and got it yesterday,so i dip my finger in and seems pretty thin and was dripping like water. Did I get the right oil or is it the same for you guys?

^Mine seemed normal for a 75w-90 viscosity. Smelled like *** (like all synthetics seem to) but no complaints on performance. Subjective, but seemed a slight improvement over the previous Redline.

To the OP...I know the thread's a little old, but don't forget to grease the shifter ball and bushing in the top reservoir while your at it.
