Cell Phone Holder + Cigarette lighter = POWER FC COMMANDER HOLDER
I wanted a discrete spot for my Power FC that would not require any drilling into the dash or anything permanent at all for that matter, so this is what I came up with:
1. Buy a simple, small car cell phone holder at the local auto parts store.
2. Buy a cheap replacement cigarette lighter at same auto parts store.
3. Cut or unscrew the handle off of the cigarette lighter.
4. Remove any unecessary parts off of the cell phone holder.
5. Super Glue cigarette lighter onto the back of the cell phone holder.
6. Let dry, then paint holder to cover up the unfortunate cheesy "Type R" logo from cell phone holder.
7. Enjoy!
Here are some late night pictures for you to enjoy. Note how unobtrusive the unit is and how easy it is to monitor the Commander through the steering wheel? Very convenient indeed!
Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks,
Ian

the handle sticking up, or the car not moving isnt a tipoff the ebrake is on ?
I think its a good idea, but isnt the highbeam indicator on that side? I know with my lights i cant really tell if they are on or not.

i did something awhile ago like this but didn't use a cell phone holder, just got a 1/2" pvc fitting, jb welded it to a plexiglass cut out (shaped like a rectangle like the commander back) and used velcro to attach it to the commander. 1/2" pvc fitting fits perfectly into the cig outlet (i THINK its 1/2", maybe bigger...)
you can see the red glow behind the commander if your ebrake is on, i think this is one of the least things we have to worry about on our car...
you can turn the commander a bit to the slide and then press the reset button and turn the commander back straight up...very simple

Yep....I did this over 3 years ago after someone else gave me the idea. Yes, the brights indicator is blocked and the odo reset is a little tricky to reach. Other than that, it's nearly a perfect mounting situation.

I'm not bashing on him - I actually did the same thing about 3 years ago - I'm just giving others that are thinking about doing it some ideas on potential problems with the setup - it is not perfect
Mine sits a little lower so I can see the tops of the indicators but that means I can barley see the whole commander screen
it also sticks out further because of the particular cellphone holder I used and thus it sometimes gets in the way of the ign. switch
just something to think about
