car starts, clanking/banging noise @ idle and slave cylinder q, help please'!

got my car fired up for the first time in 5 months... so the first thing we notices was a clanking noise. sounds like something is banging inside something hollow... the noise comes from around the UIM...

=We ruled out it was not something in the engine- woulda shot out the engine or engine woulda taken a dump already.
=nothing from the DP- exhaust banging.
=not second turbos

Then we realized the clutch was not pressurized and dried out. and believe it was the clutch fork banging around in the transmission... does that sound right? please shed some light if you have any idea what it could be otherwise- need to rule out everything i can....

NEXT...... started to bleed the clutch line... opened the bleed valve and pumped the clutch... the bubbles would clear out then all of a sudden more bubbles appear (still no change in clutch feel)... so now i close the bleed valve and pump the clutch after about 5 pumps break fluid starts dripping through the inspection plate..... im assuming this is the slave cylinder taking a ****?

if so will a napa, autozone, pepboys slave cylinder be okay or am i better off getting one from mazda? (ray of course)

thanks in advance

Sounds like your wedge collar is not engaged properly. That's what the noise was while the car was running, and that's also why your slave cylinder is not in place.

so you guys think the slave cylinder isnt in place rather then broken? "crosses fingers hoping i dont have to replace the slave"

Pull off the slave cylinder and take off the rubber boot. See how the rod looks and if its out. Also, check to see if the seal connected to the end of the rod is good. Same thing happened to me the first time, and it was because the seal wasn't in the slave cylinder so brake fluid just pumped past.

as for the wedge collar take off your inspection plate and see if the throwout bearing is situated inside the pressure plate, and if not push it in. if it doesn't stay you need to replace your collar.

If the wedge collar is not in place, when you push the clutch the piston will push out of the slave cylinder and all your fluid will run into the bellhousing. The only diagrams I have are from the FSM.

problem solved, posting for furture references for others...

i was looking through the inspection plate and saw some thing look out of place... after fiddling around a metal piece fell out of the inspection plate...

in short, my push for the slave cylinder was pushed out of the rubber and the springs were sitting in the boot (causing no pressure in my clutch, and fluids leaking)
