Car starts but stalls on idle
Okay guys, this problem has been going on for a few weeks now, and I really need to get this problem taken care of, as I'm about to move in a few weeks. Please help me out!! I'm getting desperate!
Here's the problem: Car starts great. Everytime I turn the key, the car fires right up like it used to. Problem is, immediately after starting, the idle gets really rough, the car spits and sputters, and then it dies. If I'm lucky, it'll run for about 10 seconds or so (although, like I said, it runs really rough with an idle of about 300RPM). But usually, i'm not lucky, and the car just dies within a few seconds.
Everytime it spits and sputters, a huge plume of white smoke comes out of the exhaust, and it smells profusely like fuel (cannot smell any coolant or anything like that)
Here are my relevant mods:
Power FC
NGK 9's with Magnecor Wires
Intake/DP/HF/CB
Bosch Supra Fuel Pump
The most recent change I've done is the Fuel Pump upgrade. However, the car ran perfectly after the upgrade for about 2 days. Then all this crap started to happen.
This is my current thoughts on the cause:
Seems like the idle is rediculously rich.... possibly too much fuel or not enough air?
Possibly a leaky primary fuel injector? Seems unlikely, cause everything was runing great until a few weeks ago. Also never messed with the injectors, so I'm pretty sure the O-rings are good.
I'm wondering if maybe the upgraded fuel pump is overpowering the stock FPR? Is there a way that I can compensate with the PFC to correct this?
Thanks a lot for your help guys
Rob

forgot to mention - after the car stalls, I noticed a buzzing or really fast clicking coming from underneath the UIM. I traced that sound to the Idle Speed Control Solenoid. (If I unplug it then the buzzing stops).
Is this a common thing, or does it indicate a problem? Is it possible the ISC is bad?
Thanks again

NEW INFO:
I can get the car started, but it usually takes a couple of good long cranks before it'll finally start. Once it does start, it spits and sputters at about 400 RPM for about 30 seconds or so, and then it'll finally go up to normal idle speed.
Once I get it started, the car idles and drives perfectly!
If i turn it off, it'll immediately start back up. But the longer I wait, the harder it is to get it started.
Tried the idle bleed screw, as you suggested... but it didn't seem to really help. I also popped in some brand new plugs this morning. When I did that, the car started a lot easier than it did before, but it was still pretty difficult (took 2 long cranks, started and ran for a second and then died, and then took another 2 cranks to actually get it running. But like I said, that was better than normal).
Any ideas? Please help guys, as I need to get this car home, and I'm running out of time.... this is just so annoying, i really want to get it fixed...
Thanks,
Rob

I was reading a few threads about similar problems, and one possibility that I didn't think of is a bad O-ring in the engine. Apparently, the behavior my car is exhibiting is typical of a car that has a coolant-eating habit. Once the car is turned off, the pressure from the coolant system can force coolant through the bad O-rings, and into the engine. If you try to start it up right away, it usually starts. But the longer you wait, the harder it gets because more and more coolant is getting in there. So this is definately a distinct possibility.
However...
I am experiencing NO visible loss in coolant. There is also NO coolant smell to my exhaust (both during the cranking phase and once I get it started). The exhaust usually only smokes for a few seconds after starting, and during that time it smells heavily of fuel and oil....
Because of this, it doesn't seem like O-rings would be the problem.... what do you guys think???

My car has a stalling problem too after my fuel pump install. I'm not really sure what it can be either. It's quite upsetting. I don't have a PFC, so I'm not sure what else I can do. I'm gonna try adjusting the idle a little higher today.

There are evidently a few of us that are experiencing this after the instal of a bigger fuel pump. Is there anyone else that has this problem and somehow traced it back to the pump?
Thanks again,

try this go to home depot and get some nice gauge black coated wire and add a ground to the existing one for the fuel pump. there is 2 big wires going to it... one is white one is black... guess which is the ground?
Add it there and see what happens.. this helped me.
