I don't even know parking lights are...I've never used them before, but I assume it's the switch in between the off and on position that turn on the interior lights, I've never used them...but apparently from my online traffic school (that I'm working on at 3:20am) it's illegal to drive with them on, so keep that in mind

on the fd, there are lights on the outside of your car right next to the turn signals. they come on with the first click of your headlight switch and stay on when you turn your headlights on as well, and by no means is it illegal to drive with them on.

seems that it is a good thing you are in traffic school since you dont even know what parking lights are

I think Chronos is talking about the interior "dome" lights. It is illegal to drive with those on at night, because it makes it hard for your pupils(spelling?) to focus on the road outside...pupils restrict in the light, and open in the dark.

WTF?

What the hell do they teach the kids in driver's training out here? How to drive like complete ********? That seems to be the only driving skill I see since I moved out here....

The parking lights are the first notch when you turn on your exterior lights. It lights up all of your exterior lights except for the headlights.

And the parking light trick works just fine on my 95.

Apparently it is illegal to drive with just your parking lights in cali. I don't have my copy of the vehicle code handy but I will check when I get the chance. Who cares though? I've never heard of anyone getting pulled over for them.

Headlamps

Your headlights must be on from 30 minutes after sunset until 30 minutes before sunrise. This is the minimum set by law. Of course, you may turn on your headlights whenever you like, when you feel that you need a bit more visibility. For example, at sunrise and sunset, glare can blind you to the cars on the road. If you are having trouble seeing because the sun is in your eyes, other drivers are having trouble seeing you. Turn on your lights. Caution: it is never legal to drive with just your parking lights on.

IT IS NEVER LEGAL TO DRIVE WITH JUST YOUR PARKING LIGHTS ON

Rynberg, maybe you'd like to add some other useful advice to your post next time like "Why I'm an ******* that doesn't know his head from his ***"

...I suppose the only reason they could have for this law is that people might not be able to read your brake lights as clearly in the daytime. Whatever the reason is, I doubt a cop would give you the time of day so I would use the method.

I think the law states that when it is darker, you can't drive with JUST your parking lights...however who cares if you drive with them in the day time??

I was thinking that maybe because the difference is more subtle between your parking lights and brake lights that in the day time it would harder to tell when someone's braking...or you might be right too, I truly don't know

hahaha, they must be busy staring at your car and want a closer look

An alternative some other guy posted was to turn on the rear defroster. Here is Cali we never need the defroster so he just disconnected it. Flipping the switch has the same effect as the parking lights even with it disconnected.

I may not know my head from my *** but at least I know what parking lights are.

What's with the attitude anyway? I informed you what parking lights were since you didn't seem to know. I also confirmed that the parking lights trick works on 95 FDs as well. What have YOU contributed?

BTW, you are completely misinterpreting the law. I'm pretty sure the law is intended for people not to drive around at NIGHT with just your parking lights on. I'd like to know how the average cop is supposed to be able to tell the difference between factory daytime lamps and running your parking lamps anyway -- IF they were illegal in the first place.

Don't have to be a cop to know the difference.

Daytime running lights turn on the high beams on a car, but at half the intensity....w/o turning on the rear lights.

Parking Lights turn on front signal lights and rear lights, but not the head lights.

it seemed that you were including me in your ******* statement, and I was little bit mad that day due to someone egging my car

anyways, no hard feelings

btw, I consider it relevant to make the point that driving with your parking lights on may be illegal. and it does make sense that it would be harder to tell when you're braking in daylight if your parking lights were on.

I have bad days too. That really sucks about someone egging your car. I had that happen to my SE-R once. It will make you crazy.

I'll continue to drive around with my parking lights on until a cop says I can't. It definitely keeps the temps down and I think it makes you more visible. I see other sports cars doing the same thing quite a bit.

Anyway, no hard feelings here.
