Can't open door from outside
Okay I read through some post an alot of them seemed to be talking about the locks, I have no problem locking or unlocking the door, my problem is that when I lift the exterior handle theres no pressure on the door latch and the handle will stay up with out springing back down.

You should open up the interior door skin. Also take off the cover right behind the door handle cover. I'm betting the bar that is part of the door handle has fallen or broken off or the spring might also have failed. You might as well try and order a new handle if you can't fix it because the handle itself is prone to falling off. I believe GoodFella has a group by or did have one going on.

thanks, I took off the cover by the handle an removed the two bolts but I couldn't see anything there that looked broken, I'll take a look at the rest of it when I get a chance tomorrow.

I too would double check the rod & mechanical function of the latch. If it does turn out to be the latch then buy here. Cheapest I found when my passenger handle went bad. $100 shipped I think. Brand new!!

Mine did the same thing.. After inspecting, I found that the plastic leaver was worn. A test is to remove the door panel, shut the door, reach in and work the outer handles rod with your hand. If the door opens, then the handle is the issue.
My handle appeared to be fine. But when looking closely, the plastic leaver part had slowly worn, giving it play at the hinge. When I pulled up on the handle, it didn't retract the rod far enough to release the lock.
A new handle unit was the solution...

mine was bent a small metal part, disassembled, by removing the small phillips screw, and straightened the metal piece. Worked fine after assembly. Be careful with the key lock light, my wires broke when I removed the lock assembly........

edit: Looks like JKL racing has some aluminum replacements for 160$

I had the same problem with the drivers side handle...
It had a bent metal part which I bent back...
Some plastic had scratched/chipped off the handle itself where it had contact with the bent part... Not sure which came first the bend or the chip... Replaced with a _very_ nice aluminum handle by JKL Race Engineering...
And, needed to replace a plastic linkage clip because I trashed the old one getting the damn thing out
Now all is good

You do not need to replace the door handle assembly although I do recommend the metal handles from JKL.
see pic below. i drew this quickly for another member a year or so back. something just needs to be placed (like a short bolt + nut to hold it in place?) so the rod can engage the door release.

couldn't get much done, going to have to wait till the weekend, but I was able to open it up and when moving the handle the rod doesn't move at all. and with the handle up I tried pushing down on the rod where the joint is by where it touches the top of the handle and couldn't get it to budge.

in the post talking about the bent metal piece do you mean the lever assemble between the handle an spring? As far as I can tell it looks like its how its supposed to be, do you possible have a pic of what metal piece you had to straighten? As far as I can tell from here I think its my spring that went bad.

Here is a picture of the old door handle and where the chip was...
For my problem, the bent piece was located right where this chip is...
If I recall correctly, the bend was to a small right angle part (which was no longer a right angle)...
I hope this is helpful...
Cordially,
