Can Someone Decode this JDM VIN for me?
#26
Can I just hijack this thread?
I also wondered what year mine is, would be especially helpful when ordering parts. I read somewhere that the 3 after FD3S means its a Type 3 (of 6), so 03/1995–01/1996, is this correct?
My VIN: FD3S300810
I will also add a picture of the vehicle information sticker.
Its also a JDM car.

i'm curious does the vin on that sticker match the one stamped on the car? i only ask cause i have a page for looking up jdm vins and yours doesn't exist. i spose it doesn't really mean anything. i was also curious where that sticker came from. my 92 from japan didn't have anything like that. was it added by an exporter?

@ PeloNZ: The Efini chart from Goo-net states that the last Type-R (II) was sold in 8/1993. But mine is a Series 3 (starting 3/1995) but the vehicle information sticker in the doorsill (See photo above) says its a Type-R.. So there is quite a big gap in time..
Can anyone say, what the differences where with the Type-R of this time?

According to this epc site ????? RX-7 ? ?????? FD3S - ???????????? your car was built 09/16/1994. Assuming that is correct, and it has been for other cars I've checked, that would make sense.
I'm not sure what the detailed differences are beyond what was posted by XPT above.
I just took a quick look at Brian Long's write up regarding the Type R in the period around when your car was made. Unfortunately, the description is vague. I note that your car is in fact a Type R "Special Edition". Which adds more confusion. Brian Long speaks of a special edition Type R being a Type RZ. Take a close look at your C pillars. Is there any remnant of an RZ sticker?
I actually wonder if it doesn't mean "special" in the english sense of the phrase. "GRADE Type R EDITION" might be all there is to it.
Here are some examples of ID tags which I have been collecting https://goo.gl/eY8sSi

By the looks of it, I would say the sticker was put there by Mazda at the factory, but thats just an assumption though.

I've only ever known one model of FD to have anything under the "Special Edition" header (aside from the picture above strangely), and that was the 1997 Bathurst X (which is quite misleading as other than it's limited build number it didn't have much to warrant being called special...
#31
Apologies for the double post; but I can confirm and clarify that all JDM vin stickers contain the Special Edition header, but as my post above explains I know of only one single model line that has something under it.
Spirit R's have completely different VIN stickers altogether so aren't really included in this discussion.

I've already decoded this person's VIN, and it is a valid JDM VIN. results of the VIN check are posted above. Remember to add the "-" between the FD3S and the numbers, i.e. FD3S-123456.

Unfortunately I have no idea where the sticker came from and I haven't checked if the VIN there corresponds to the one on the car (I assume you mean below the windshield?), but will do tomorrow.

Its probably just different because mine is way older. mine has a plate riveted on the firewall as well. no big deal. sounds like a pretty nice ride.

S-Package vs Special Edition
My 1999 Type RB seems to have come with the "S-Package". I had assumed the "special edition" on my tag referred to the "S-package". So the above is news to me. I am not sure if there is an indication of "S-package" on any of the data sheets or tags. The additions that Brian Long says came with the S-Package could be swapped in relatively easily. (rear spoiler, ZR-tires (16"), rear strut bar, foglamps, suede seats and stereo radio/cassette). These options added Y230,000 to the price according to Long.
I clearly see 1999 (and later) Type RB and Type RB S-Package named on the auction lists, so there is a likely a straight forward way to identify if the car initially came with "S-Package".

On VIN checks the RB-S show up as just RB, without having access to Mazda's own database (a member on the Aus forums used to have the full FD database), I doubt the VINs will ever tell us much more.

Pretty Stock
My car was an auction car out of Japan. It was mostly stock save for a Kakimoto muffler and TriForce Zelda wheels. It had the spoiler, fog lights, velour seats, rear strut bar (and privacy cover), which seem to have come with the car, but could have been added. The backlight is clear.
Based on the cars flowing through the auction houses (about 20 cars a week) it seems RB-S outnumbered RB by about 2-1.

Obvious stuff like Silverstone silver metallic exterior paint, no sunroof.
Vin was assigned (build date?) on the 28th March 1997.
That's about all I have, sorry. Not really anything new aside from the build date I guess.

I can't find much more than what you already have on the sticker sadly. But I can confirm it is indeed a Version 4 Type-RS (265 PS), so would have come with the bigger front brakes (and 17" wheels), harder shock absorbers, and 4.3 final drive ratio.

just one question. I thought the RS’s were 280ps?
#41
Nah, the revised (abraidable seal) turbos which brought the PS figure up to 280 didn't come in until the Version 5 1999 spec cars along with the facelift and the vast array of other changes at that time point.
Between 1996 and the end of the 1998 production series, the manual cars got a 10PS power increase (255 to 265) over the pre-1996 cars.
So the 1995 RS model would have been a 255PS car. So you have to know the year/version number as well as the model type to determine the stock PS figure!
Always hard to say what the current figures might be, since it's possible your car may have been rebuilt and ported or had a set of turbos from one of the various tuning houses in Japan (+ a tune)[or perhaps some work here in the UK if you aren't the first UK-based owner!].
But in it's totally original form back in 1997 it would have been a 265PS car

What is My Vin? It's got the R.E Amemiya Plate.
Can you guys tell me about this Car?
And Is it worth saving from being cut up?
VIN placard
Model: E-FD3S [Paint] PZ
VEHICLE NO. I.D : FD3S-101154
The RE Plate reads like this:
R.E. (Amemiya Symbols)
Always ahead with the latest innvation.
Frame No. 101154
Serial No. RE-303
. RE AMEMIYA Co.
I located a A-Pillar "Half-Car" Front Clip and can get a "Cut and Shut" weld job done to put the replacement front end on it. If it's worth the trouble! Because I honestly would hate to cut it up because I can't transfer it due to the Salvage Title..if I can Repair it then I can get a Rebuilt Title. But I have to know if it's worth the endeavor. Because I am getting the picture that it's going to be an expensive fix.
Let me know some kind of history for this thing because I hear it's a Precursor 92 Icon Car that was Raced but I am new to the Forum and I have no idea how to specifically look up the stuff, can someone throw me a bone and/or give me a hand please? It would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Oversized wheel lip caught the Pinchweld and torqued the entire apron inward, compromising the sidemember, the tire then proceeded to shove itself into the Strut tower. A quality strut tower bar, correct width steer wheels and sidebar fender frame brackets could of potentially prevented this..
You can see where the lip of the Wheel snapped off from catching the pinchweld.

Maybe also pitch your enquiry on the Australia forum.
Friend down there just sold his mashed-in-front S8 for A$25,000.
The Aussies may have a greater appreciation of what an early RHD RE-A build chassis might be worth.
@billyboy
Also check into container rates to Sydney.

Can't say I've seen any of the "specials" down here as registered cars, race and rally imports or parts cars would be the most likely options.
Fer instance, before getting too deep into details, headlights and filters straight up would present problems getting compliance and require change to oem.
The car has come up somewhere here before too and the guy was intending to space frame the front end from memory. Never tried, is RE any good on the communication, might be worthwhile contacting them?
The $500 project FD we have at the moment is virtually the same, even down to the colour.......front end damage, firewall forward drilled and cut off. Quite the stash of housings there!

Definitely not worth doing the massive amount of body work it would take to put it back together.

I agree with Dale here. Overwhelmingly likely not worth the expense to fix.
Likely some sort of light RE-A aftermarket package fitted to an otherwise normal FD, or other work performed by them sufficient enough to warrant them popping their own RE-A plate on it.
RE-A would possibly have logs on what they did to the car, if you really wanted to check.

It might be worth a look through the Japan auction data to see what sort of premiuim (if any) this kind of pro-shop mod-cars sell at at market. There usually some reference to that in the summary of the trades.
JAPANESE AUCTIONS - b-pro.ca
Note , the above site comes up as "not secure" on my computer.
Looks like you may have to set up an account at B-pro.

Better yet give "Brian" a call and see if he has any insight.

Hijacking the thread
Hey, I've been looking for a while and I haven't been able to find any info on the original paint code and trim level on a 1992 RX7, it was imported from Japan. The chassis code is fd3s-114808 Any help is appreciated!!
