broke y-pipe stud any ideas? (pic)
while i was checking all my vacume hoses and piping i noticed a little bit of oil in the middle of the y-pipe and the turbo so i torqued the stud and broke it, i wanted to ask you guys if there was anything that i could do to minimize the chance of cracking the turbo during removal, im scared to even start this.

First thing I would do is stuff a paper towel into the turbo so you don't drop anything into it. Then I would just remove the stud with a pair of vise grips. You might want to run a tap down int and clean up the threads. You can replace the stud or just use a bolt.

Cover the Turbo opening well just like Rated R1 advised. Spray some PB Blaster on the stud base and let it soak for about an hour before you try to unscrew it. The stud should come out without any problem.

Looks like the same thing that happened to mine last year. A chunk of the base next to the stud broke off. I bought some manifold repair goop and was going to glue it back but I dropped the peice in the the devils triangle section of the engine bay. I replaced the bottom section of the y-pipe kit from mazdaformance.

If you follow Mazda torque specs for tightening their fasteners, you would not have this problem. That is why I have three torque wrenches.
That one has a max of about 96inch pounds/8ftlbs.
I use 85inch pounds.
