It's been a long time since I worked on the audio system. I forget whether the sound out plugs into the radio section or the cd section. That could be the problem. Pop the CD player back in (and all plugins) and see if the audio works. Also, see my writeup from a few years back on how to replace both the Bose radio and cd with the combined Bose unit from a Mazda Millenia or 626. Fantastic system/sound and it looks very stock/appropriate for our cars.

If you're installing an aftermarket HU to power the stock Bose speakers, you need one of these.

Good point. Note: You don't need this if installing a different Mazda Bose head unit (you just need to have/build an adaptor wire).

If you originally had the stock touring setup with the Bose HU and Bose CD, the system won't work without the CD in there because the CD unit loops the sound output back into the HU.

With no CD player installed the fix is to install two jumper pins into each speaker in/out. These go where the CD cable connected to the HU. Which ones to jump is well documented. Check the audio section. I sold my CD player and put in a din pocket so I had to do this. Easy to do.

If you're using a stock head unit, there is this plastic cap that fits over where the cd player plugs into, without that, no sound will come out.

The OE cap should have the jumpers built into it. You can make the jumpers with thin wire, install, and then tape over the connector and jumpers. The OE cap will be hard to find.

I had a spare din cable from a non working cd player that I cut off. I wired together input left and output left an the same for right. The connector has 13 pins. There is 1 pin at the very bottom an on the top there are 4 pins 2left/2right. You can connect the wires together, 1an2 and 3an4
