Borla center section queston.

Anyone use or currently using a muffler in their center section to quiet things down? Just wondering if you noticed it being any laggyer w/ stock twins. I am thinking of getting a borla muffler and welding my flanges to it to make it fit. Got warned for a loud exhaust. I am currently running the pettit resonated midpipe. Thanks for any info. Garret

Dean Colver in FL runs a Borla for his center section with no noticable lags. I have a 20B and the Pettit resonated midpipe but am replacing this with a Borla to quiet down the car. The Borlas (I think Dean runs the XR - check out their website for the best flowing models) shouldn't impede flow much if at all. A lot of others on this site run Flow Masters but I don't think they flow as well.

Speeking of Borla does anyone run there muffler? Any sound clips or opnions on how it compares to something like the RB duals? I have a friend with a Borla catback on his Audi A4 1.8T and it sounds dead sexy.

The Rx-7 Store sells a resonated mid-pipe which I believe is just a mid-pipe with a Magnaflow muffler welded in. I think any impediment on performance would depend on how restrictive the muffler is; a flow through muffler shouldn't impede performance at all. I checked Flowmaster at my local Pep Boys and the diagram shows that it is not a flow through muffler but uses a series of deflectors inside the muffler to bounce the sound around. So I think that would be a poor choice. From what I've read, Borla XR-1 (??) and Magnaflow (flow through model) are the best.

I ran a borla xr-1 for about 2 years. I didn't have any problems or noticeable lag running stock twins and a PFS catback.

I've still got the one from Pettit when Borla used to make them for the 3rd Gen. It has 2.75" piping so it adds just enough backpressure on my 3" DP & MP to keep the twins under control. No sound clips, but I am never trading it, if that says anything! What I have noticed is that the tips on the RB are much bigger than mine.

G - You have the Ti HKS? That thing is so free flowing that adding a Borla mid pipe wouldn't impede anything. It will be some added backpressure, but negligable and your Profec will control boost better.
