Unhappy Boost Problem: Had my vac lines replaced and now boost is worse than before!!!

Ok, so when i got my car i knew something was wrong. I installed a boost guage and i saw that i had a boost problem of 10-7-5 and that when i punched it from a dead start i would get 0 psi or 3psi. I ordered a vac hose kit and had it installed but the guy who installed it didnt use all of the hose..... he replaced 2 solenoids and some other little plastic pieces and when i got the car back today i went and drove it. same boost as before on the line 0 or 3 psi. then while just driving i get 6-6-6 psi..... what should i do now? I plan on taking my car back to the shop and either asking for a refund or asking them to do it again at their own cost. any suggestions?

Did this person have the vacuum hose diagram?

Personally I wouldn't trust a hose job to anyone but myself. It's not a job of supreme experience or intelligence, just patience and attention to detail.

Oh, and I think straight 6psi indicates the wastegate and turbo precontrol solenoids are crossed or something. Check vanditmar's site.

For starters, the 1st turbo line will be lacking the pills if you are getting 6psi whilst driving.

next, there are further vacum leaks. You have a small amount whilst driving but not enough from idle, hence the symptoms.

Get a vacum gauge plugged into the vacum circuit (other side of the 1-way valve) & see if it holds vacum (10in+ of mecury) after the engine is shut down. Or watch the vacum remain stable as you rev the car or drive it. If your vacum drops off then your in trouble & have to trace the leak before attempting anything else.

Remember that the FD is up to 12 years old now (92-02) & they are all showing there age.

Of course - I should have thought of that the first time - it's very possible the shop replaced the lower hoses leading to the actuators and never noticed the metal pills in them. Those must be present, and if you get replacements, look up the sizes and get exact sized replacements. (Size of the holes that is). Maybe they haven't thrown away the old hoses yet.

That's the source of the vacuum (at the manifold), but the system stores that vacuum in a couple of chambers. Your boost gauge doesn't tell you if the vacuum reservoirs are continuing to hold vacuum when the engine is under boost - a bad check valve or burst hose will cause this. The actuators rely on this vacuum circuit.

ok... just to inform you guys.... i have no idea what a pill looks like, so if anyone has a picture and something that will show what size it is compared to something it would really help....

I went up to the shop today and the guy said he'd never heard of "pills" for it and he showed me the service manual for the 93 model RX-7 and on the vac hose diagram it showed nothing of the pills or where they should be located. also, we looked through all of the replaced hoses and there were nothing in any of them....

what now? HELP!

Read that. If those pills aren't there and you have a '93, then your car will not make full boost.
