Boost Gauge, Electrical or Mechanical??
I'm looking for a boost gauge and see I can get an electric or mechanical one. Which one is more accurate?
I would think mechanical. Should I go with Blitz, Autometer, APEXi, HKS or GReedy??? Please help.

I prefer electrical gauges and Defi is the only manufacturer to make good quality electrical gauges with English units.

What about the HKS dual turbo timer, it has boost gauge features built in. I need a turbo timer anyway. I just wanted to ask you because I value your opinion.
I'll go electrical and look into the Defi gauges.
Thanks
Chris

I personally think turbo timers are a waste of money and hassle with these cars. The stock twins are oil and water-cooled, you don't need to let them cool for several minutes. Just drive easy the last little bit before shutting the car off.
The other reason I don't like turbo timers is the fact that your car will just sit there getting hotter and heat-soaking. A few people have lost engines due to turbo timers because they blew a radiator hose and the engine overheated before the time shut-off.....
BTW, Defi makes very high quality gauges. I really like mine, except for the lighting is green w/red needles, so it doesn't match stock. Small price to pay IMO.

What's the deal with these link systems?? If I buy a "Link" gauge will I have to have the control unit??
Or will it work with out it for now until I can afford the control unit and more gauges?
Thanks again

Look at defi's website for a thorough explanation.
The D-gauge series works on an individual basis.
The Link and BF series requires the control unit. All sensor wires go to the control unit. You run a single wire from the control unit to one of the gauges. The rest of the gauges are daisy-chained. This means you don't have to run a sensor wire and power to each separate gauge. Very cool. Also, the control unit provides peak, 3-minute record, and warning functions. The Link series are expensive but worth it IMO.

Nice!! Only like 500 brought to the US, correct?? I have a lot of the same things you have (RB cat back) (SS downpipe) (PF street ported motor) (High flow cat) I'd like to get an intake after I get a new ECU of coarse!!
Do I have to send my ECU out to Pettit?? I saw on RX7 store that the price included 2 day turn around time. So I assumed I send it out to them to be rechiped.
Thanks again and again and again!!

And do you know if they accept PayPal, a bunch of my money is tied up there.

It will fit into any generic mounting pod, the gauges are actually quite shallow. I highly recommend Frank's triple gauge pod that replaces the center channel speaker. This is a great product that blends in with the stock interior, puts the gauges in easy line of sight, and is decently priced. Everybody who has seen the gauges and pod on my car has wanted it.

I chose VDO for my gauges. They offer reasonable prices, look similar to stock, and work well.

my mech gauge rattles close to full bost. Is this normal for mech gauges or is mine just a POS.
Also since I want a new one anyhow. Who makes the best match for interior lighting (amber on black) on the guages?

I ordered orange bulb covers with my gauges. They match the stock colors perfectly.

Good choice on the Defi's. They cost more but I believe they are well worth it. Peak warnings and playback features are pretty tight, plus I like the fact that you can add larger shift light attachments. Those would be very usefull if you're running 9/10ths on the track and forget to monitor you gauges for awhile.
What's really sweet about the defi's is the hookup, once you got the sensors installed running the wires to the gauges is cake.
Good choice IMHO

Frank

Its when you can wire the fans to run 10 minutes after the car is shut down to help cool the motor faster. As far as boost gauges go if you are also looking for a boost controller I would look into the Blitz sbc-iD unit, I love mine and since the control module is mounted under my hood the vacuum line running to the runner nipple it small therefore impossible to get kinked which means accuracy should be damn good, I use my boost controller as a boost gauge too, its a good way to kill two birds with one stone.

i have the same boost guage as adam c... IIRC, mine came with a red sleeve to put over the light. it has a pink hue to it but it still looks pretty close to stock, especially during the day.
i'll get some night and day pics up tomorrow.
