Bolt/nut sizes for various parts
I feel really dumb asking this question but I have a roller here and I'm buying parts as I go. A ton of nuts and bolts are missing. Do you all buy they from the dealer? I wanted to just hit a hardware store with the sizes I need since I'm sure the dealer marks up everything.
The parts diagram book doesn't have sizes or anything, just part numbers, just wondering if theres a way I can find out the sizes. Just a few I need off the top of my head.
sway bar bolts and nuts
trans tunnel braces
trans to engine bolts (buying these from dealer)
Full exhaust
Everything in engine bay is missing their mounting bolts to the shock towers
I suppose I can just get every size bolt I can find and test fit and thread each bolt, but can take time.

Mc Master Carr is your friend here. I M6x1.00 is a very common bolt on the car as well as M8x1.25. I bought a bulk package of M6x1.00 bolts washers and nuts from there and cant count how many I have used so far.

Usually as I add aftermarket parts I end up with extra bolts and nuts. Many of the nuts/bolts are interchangeable on the car. I just throw the extras in a plastic bin. If I have a particular project and cant find the bolt I need then I just go to the hardware store. ACE hardware has tons of bolts or Lowes also typically has what I need at a better price. Sometimes depending what the bolt is used for I might get stainless steel or something so I don't have to deal with a heat soaked rust pile later on. Though it sounds like your car is more nutless then mine so buying in bulk could be a better option.

Yeah I may buy bulk but don't know sizes. Would be nice if I can find a metric range of the bolts. Get one of each bolt size. And test fit until I find right ones. Best way to go at it I think.

The part number does in fact give the dia and length of bolt. The rest of the code gives details such as strength grade, head type, coating. I have not bothered to break that part of the PN code as i buy OEM bolts as replacement, but if you search my name you will find the size description method.

Gringo Grande call out was correct. Mazda parts diagram states lower are P/N 99796-0825 (i.e. 8 mm x 25 mm long)
upper are 99796-0845 (x 45 mm long) and upper middel -0855 (x 55 mm long).
Note numbering system: also a Stud is 998**-xxyy, nut is 999**-xx00 xx equal to diameter and yy length.

That probably solved a lot of my problems. I been going through part diagrams and jotting down numbers to see how much Ray would charge.
For example for clarification I have a number here 99756-0816, so this is 8 mm x 16 mm?
Some bolt numbers I have here is labeled 28-114A and 39-065A, these wouldnt match that numbering system. Would these be classified as dealer only bolts? One of those is front endlinks to arms and one is for PPF to Diff.

While putting my suspension back together I ordered a few new, oem bolts from ray. I believe the most expensive was like $4.xx.
I'm sure from any other dealer they'd be like $15 apiece but you can probably get all of the major suspension and engine bay bolts from Ray for under $100 (guesstimate). Bolts that you only need 2 of...like PPF to Diff...get from Ray.
As someone else mentioned, there are certain bolts that the car uses over and over...I'd buy a bulk bag of these for $10 from McMaster-Carr and call it a day. The random bolts...like the

M6, M8, M10 are the most common thread sizes. I've replaced a ton on my front end in the past few weeks. If you don't want to buy online, go to Ace Hardware. Get a plastic tray to separate them all.
Unless you find some off-spec fasteners:
M6 bolts/nuts will use a 10mm socket.
M8 bolts/nuts will use a 12mm socket.
M10 bolts/nuts will use a 14mm socket.
Look for "hex flange" fasteners so you don't have to use washers.

Well I don't think the ones I have r stock bc from what I was toled the stock one bolt in the the flywheel but on the aftermarket (eather mazdatrix or clutch master one with changeabl friction serfus) one I am running bolts go through the flywheel and have a nut on them I measured the ones I took off

Bringing this back from the dead to see if anyone has since/ever hated themselves enough to go through the painstaking effort of compiling a list (or file) on the various bolt and nut sizes on the car? Essentially converting the FSM PN scheme into a categorized list of respective location, size/s, hardness and count?

I'm not sure it can be done. The scheme works for part numbers like 99756-0816 (from above) but no one answered the question about part numbers like FD01-28-114A. In my experience, most of the stuff you care about has that kind of numbering.

BelMetric is your friend if you're looking for high quality yellow zinc JIS nuts/bolts that don't necessarily need to be a Mazda part (body panels, mounting of bits and bobs, etc.)

P.S. Just remember if you're looking for M8 nuts and bolts they HAVE to be JIS compliant or else they'll be 13mm heads.
