my intentions were to buy the greddy smic and keep the stock air box...
my solution to the "crossover" is the RB inlet pipe...that is, if the only issue with the greddy smic fitting is with the "crossover"....

That stock crossover duct is overrated... I recently replaced my stock intake and crossover duct with an A'PEXi power intake and according to my PowerFC, my intake temperatures remain virtually the same. I'm not sure if a cold air intake (M2/rx7fashion/etc.) set up would yeild lower intake temps, but according to the numbers I see every day, the stock airbox and A'PEXi intakes result in the same intake temperatures. I've also read a post somewhere about someone just removing the crossover duct altogether while keeping the stock intake box and stock intercooler and the temperatures were no different than with that duct in place. The only downside I've noticed so far is that my intake temps do go up faster when I'm stuck in traffic, probably because of heatsoak. I was a firm believer in cold air intakes myself until I saw actual numbers for myself on the PowerFC... I've been monitoring this for 2 weeks under different weather conditions and the temperature increase from an open intake is very little to non-existent.

Red face I agree with the last post

I have the Greddy SMIC and originally had the stock duct and air box with the Racing Beat peice (of ****). It should be sold for $19.95 on infomercials but there is no way it's worth $100.

I took the stock airbox, air duct & RB part out and threw them in the trash. They were broken and cracked. I beleive the metal peice is to cover the hole that the crossover peice used to connect to.

I installed the Blitz intake kit (comes with heat shield) and did not notice temperature changes either(I don't get stuck in traffic though). It takes some tweaking with the Greddy SMIC for the heat shieald (Blitz is not as wide).

The Greddy is about $150 more than the Blitz SMIC.
The PFS is a kit and he won't sell it sperate. Cold air intake box with tube connected to SMIC air duct, air duct, SMIC and not sure about the piping.

Hehe, my thoughts exactly. I don't understand how Racing Beat can charge $100 for a piece of plastic. R&D you say? It's just a freakin piece of plastic, I coulda thought of it and R&D'ed it for $10, haha. I'm not saying that it's a complete piece of crap cause it probably works better than the stock crossover duct but $19.95 sounds about right... not $100.

Does anyone have any real intake temperature data collected using a PowerFC with a "cold air" intake? At first I couldn't believe the lack of difference between my stock intake and the Apex intakes but I'm starting to thing "cold air" intakes don't do a whole lot. If anything, I would think the RB duct / stock duct would actually yeild lower temps than even an M2 because the M2 ducts air from the small opening on the side of the radiator... which probably doesn't get as much airflow as the front of the car.

I wish I could find the tests but I remember it was concluded that the stock intake is the coldest out of everything. It makes sense when you look at the design but there is also the possibility of air reversion. Has anyone tried using a '99 intake in conjunction with a Greddy or Blitz IC? I'd love to see pics.

PFS will sell them seperately, that is what I did. I only bought the intercooler and the better ducting. I am currently using a pettit intake with it. Great thing about PFS is that it uses stock pipes, no greddy elboy, etc. Also, I think the PFS intake is fantastic, just too damn expensive, it gets the really cold air from the duct like stock setup. and even if it does grab warm air back through intercoler during shifts, no big deal.

about the CAI, a lot of guys say that once moving the underhood temps are very minimal, thus a non-ducted intake is no big deal, the problems comes, as stated earlier, when you sit in traffic for a few secs, and boom temps rise like crazy, it takes a while for intakle to cool down, but only a few minutes.

How did you find the fitment to be with the pfs intercooler? Also, how is the pressure drop with that unit?

Thanks

the fitment was perfect, and the duct is great, I haev heard of people throwing away greddy duct for PFS one. I forget teh pressue drop, it is listed on lighting world of thunder site. miuch less than stock of course. and the unit is much larger than greddy or blitz.

What radiator were you running when you had this setup?

Thanks

SR's stock mount intercooler

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that I just pulled off my SR stock mount intercooler, and it's up in the for sale section. It is a direct replacement for stock, and utilizes stock pipes and ducting. It would definitely be a quick install, and a good choice for the money.

Here's the pic that's in the for-sale section...

It came with my car, so I don't have an idea of seat-of-the-pants performance versus stock, but it is definitely less laggy than the blitz fmic I just put in.
